NEW JAIPUR AIRPORT:-

It's a project that promises to change the fortune of this desert state. Talks are at an advanced stage for a greenfield airport on the Jaipur-Delhi highway. The project is a bid to help decongest the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

According to government sources, "To avoid the congestion at Delhi airport, a proposal was mooted for a second airport. But none of the states, like Uttar Pradesh or Haryana, was able to provide land, as a result, Rajasthan bagged the project."

"As per rules, no airport can come up within a distance of 60 km from Jaipur and 120 km from Delhi. Therefore, the proposed site had to be on the Jaipur-Delhi highway at a place called Shahpura which is about 65 km from Jaipur," he added.

The airport is being promoted by a private player. "Obviously they have the necessary understandings and clearances from the Airport Authority of India and all other departments concerned at the Centre," said officials. A few rounds of talks have been held between the state government and the private party, they added.

If things proceed on the expected lines, the state government will sign the memorandum of understanding with the party soon. The proposed investment for the airport is around of Rs 4,500 crore.

The official said primarily the airport will be used for cargo and chartered flights. The proposed airport will also cater to the industrial belt of Neemrana, Bhiwadi, Pathedi where several industrial units have shifted operations from Haryana, Chopanki, Dharuhera, Kushkhera and Gurgaon.

The Neemrana Japanese Park, a hub of Japanese auto component manufacturers, has also attracted Koreans. The proposed airport will assist business alliances between the two countries by creating employment opportunities and bringing in more investment in the state.

Several companies like Nissin Brakes India Private Ltd, Mitsui Prime Advanced Composites India Pvt Ltd, Toyota Gosei Pvt Ltd, TPR Autoparts Manufacturing India Pvt Ltd, Daikin Air-conditioning India Pvt Ltd and Imasen Electric Industrial Co Ltd are already at an advanced stage of construction in Neemrana. According to official sources, a total investment of approximately Rs 1,600 crore is likely to materialise in this area, generating employment for over 3,500 people.

The airport will also be used to park aircraft. "This will clear much space at the Delhi airport. The short distance between Delhi and the proposed airport is an advantage," he said.

The Project is a part of State Government of Rajasthan initiative wherein the State wishes to develop the Airport as a part of large industrial area wherein Airport acts as a power catalyst.

Rajasthan, being a landlocked state, will benefit greatly from the project as it would provide four way multi-modal connectivity on an important Delhi-Jaipur corridor - connecting Roads (NH-8 and NH-11, Ports (JNPT connected through DFC), International Airport and Rail.

The earmarked area area at is spread over approximately 4,500 acres. The surrounding of the industry is having a heavy concentration of high value and time sensitive industries. These include Auto and auto component, Time Sensitive Manufacturing, Industrial Park, Light Engineering Industry, Pharma, IT / ITES Food Processing/ Gems, Jewellery (DMIC dedicated zone) Defence and Aviation SEZ (for domestic procurement under Offset Clause), SEZs and EoUs.

The project would fulfill passenger and cargo traffic needs of massive industrial corridor in 150-200 km industrial zone around the project.

India’s first low-cost airport to come up near Jaipur

Economic Times
March 8, 2010
INDIA’S first low-cost airport is all set to come up near Jaipur in Rajasthan. The civil aviation
ministry has cleared a proposal to set up the airport 60 km off Jaipur.
The no-frills facility is
expected to cost just Rs 500 crore in the first phase.
The proposed airport is only 12 km from National Highway 8, which connects Jaipur to Delhi. The
promoter of the airport, Rajasthan Aviation Infrastructure (India), has tied up with Fraport AG of
Germany for technical consultancy and is planning to get the airport up and running by 2014.

In the first phase, the airport will have a 7,000-feet runway which can handle aircraft of Airbus
A320 size
, said Ajay Dua, chairman of Rajasthan Aviation Infrastructure (India). The land
identified for the project is owned by the Rajasthan government and the company is now in
negotiations to buy the land
. “We have requested the Rajasthan government to provide road
connectivity. We are ready to provide them sweat equity in return for infrastructure support,” he
said. There is no cultivated land in the project site and the promoters feel that there will be no
issues related to land acquisition or rehabilitation.
Interestingly, the project location is only 160 km from Delhi and just 60 km from Rewari, which is
a key point in the Delhi-Mumbai dedicated railway freight corridor. Apart from lowcost airlines, the
proposed airport could attract private jets since parking fees would be lower than Delhi and
Jaipur. Moreover, sales tax on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) in Rajasthan is only 4%, among the
lowest in the country.

“Finances are being tied up and we plan to launch the airport by 2014,” said Yoges Gard, CEO of
Rajasthan Aviation Infrastructure (India). Some Japanese banks are interested in financing
