Four residential buildings planned for old Jersey City pasta factory site

JERSEY CITY — Four residential buildings, two of them 25-stories high, are slated for the old Mueller's pasta factory on Baldwin Avenue, another sign that the Downtown building boom is extending farther west.

The developer, Argent Ventures, wants to build 980 units on the 5.2-acre site, located less than half a mile from the Journal Square PATH station. The Mueller's site is largely vacant, aside from a four-story, 300,000-square-foot former manufacturing plant that will be demolished.

"The site represents the largest, 'shovel ready' development site in Journal Square and one of the prime development sites in Jersey City," the developer says on the project's website.

Argent is scheduled to go before the Planning Board on Tuesday night for site plan approval.

Councilman Rich Boggiano, who represents Ward C, where the property is located, has met with the developer and has given the plan his tentative approval. Boggiano noted that the two tall buildings proposed for the Mueller's site are "set back" from Baldwin Avenue so they don't tower over the small apartment buildings and residential homes across the street.

Big news - looks like demolition is starting. The Eglentowicz signs that inevitably signal demolition, along with some equipment and fencing, is on site.

There are some new renders for this. It will have two 7 story buildings close to the street in Phase 1 and the two 25 story towers will be Phase 2. The complete project will have 980 apartments, a rooftop pool, 36,447 square feet of retail, and a 502 space parking garage.

They have been removing the massive pile of ground up concrete for many months and will probably continue for a while.

Thanks towerpower. When was the first of those two pics taken? Because maybe once a week I stroll past this site during work hours, and it's been at least 5 or 6 months since I saw a worker on site.

I haven't seen any change over the last few (probably 6) months, since the building was fully torn down.

The city's most recent development map shows this as under construction, but it doesn't look like any movement

8 months later - this project has not moved at all. Not a good sign for the future Crescent Park as it's the same company - but it's always possible for things to get moving after a company sat on the plans for a while (eg Van Leer)

Nada. Seems like they are just land banking. There are several other projects moving in the area (though smaller) so the ability to build definitely exists.

Hamilton over at Wired New York reported that a construction trailer was dropped off at this site. I believe it is this one.

This pile of dirt looks newly moved as well. Signs of life?
