Nice to see these returned to residential use. I lived previously in a flat on this street and they are great spacious buildings, well suited to being split into apartments.

The only shame about the others on the street is that they have been generally fitted out to a cheap standard in the flats themselves and the communal areas. Also I disapprove of studio apartments in general, they are an excuse to rent a tiny flat for the same price as a standard one bedroom, and hike the price of the other 1-beds in the same building. :eek:hno:

The future of the former Jesmond Dene Nursery site in Newcastle was cast in doubt a year ago when plans to turn the land into luxury retirement homes were abandoned by the firm initially selected by Newcastle City Council to develop the site.

the council has now revealed that the new preferred bidder is a joint venture between retirement home specialists McCarthy & Stone and Newcastle-based The High Street Group, developers of the Hadrian’s Tower and Strawberry Place schemes in the city centre.
