Old derelict plant in Jowhar will be restored according to the new Italian ambassador to Somalia:



Somali President receives new Italian Ambassador to Somalia
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has on Sunday received new Italian Ambassador to Somalia, Fabrizio Marcelli in Mogadishu.

Ambassador Fabrizio Marcelli presented his credentials to the president.

Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Buri Mohamed Hamsa who spoke to the press after Marcelli and President Mohamud held talks in Mogadishu, said that the two officials raised a number of issues including strengthening bilateral relations and establishing new co-operations.

Hamsa welcomed the reopening of the Italian Embassy in Mogadishu for the first time in more than 23 years.

He added that the government of Italy promised to help the reconstruction of Isnaay Sugar Factory in Jowhar, Somali University and the Garowe-Galkayo highway.

Which university it Somali University? It's not the same as Somalia National University, correct? The Italian ambassador shared that Somali University will be rebuilt, but I don't think it's the same as Somalia National University. The extension and renovation of Somalia National University looks interesting.

If anyone has some information about this university ( Somali University) please share it here.

Great news, I wonder how much of the equipment is still usable?
Very little, this is the oldest sugar plant in the region, it needs to be completely restored with with modern equipment accompanied by an irrigation system/sugar cane plantation in the surrounding area. Its in the same state as the more recent Juba Sugar factory which also needs to reconstructed as well:

The national university is the only institution for higher education that they had a hand in establishing in 1954 & is the oldest in the country, so he's most likely referring to that one. The reconstruction costs aprox $30 million over a 3 year period.

Indian Traders Visit Sugar Factory in Jowhar Town


The regional administrations of middle shabelle region of Somalia and Indian traders have on Saturday visited the sugar plantation and the former sugar factory in Jowhar town the headquarters of middle shabelle region.

The reason behind the visit of the Indian traders in the town is to invest the sugar plantation and to re-operate the sugar factory, so that many Somali nationals will gain job opportunities.

The traders said that they will submit what they have witnessed to the tycoons in their country, so that the mission will resume with immediate effect.

In September this year the state Minister for commerce and industries has visited the beautiful sugar plantation lands in Jowhar.
