Kochi is an exception. Even after multiplex boom, many single screen theatres survived. Padma, Kavitha, Saritha etc. Only Shenoys was closed for renovation. Padma was doing good business at the time of cinepolis dominance in mg road region. Vineetha was recently launched, and it is already gaining rave reviewsAura cinema is the same group running multiplex in Mattannur Links mall? With so many seats available in theatre complexes like Savitha film city will there be enough takers for multiplex in Kannur? Are people in Kannur starving to buy a popcorn and a bottle of water at Rs 500.
In Kochi and Kozhikode most of the single screens closed down before multiplexes opened. In fact now Kozhikode has much lesser seats available than pre multiplex days. Same thing happened at Thalassery. Most of the single screens closed down before Carnival multiplex opened. As long as there is Savitha film city any newly opened multiplexes will find it hard to stay profitable unless they reduce ticket price. In Trivandrum most of the single screen didn't closed down like the rest of Kerala. So they got a mall with Carnival multiplex just recently. They did have Ariesplex which is a stand alone multiplex but it was actually a four screen theatre complex renovated as a multiplex. Anyhow the ticket rates are low in Trivandrum multiplexes due to competition from single screens.
