WHAT? Why? Because it is in the middle? It is not even a state capital.Kansas City should be our nation's capital.
Seriously.
There is something going on out there in Denver. I don't know what, but if we ever did need a second capital further inland, I think it is Denver. Just speculation, but ...Geography also allows Denver to have a considerable government presence, with many federal agencies based or having offices in the Denver area. In fact, the Denver-Aurora Metropolitan Area has more federal workers than any other metropolitan area except for the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Along with the plethora of federal agencies come many companies based on US defense and space projects, and more jobs are brought to the city by virtue of its being the capital of the state of Colorado. The Denver area is home to the former nuclear weapons plant Rocky Flats and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
Kansas City is a very nice city, but I wouldn't compare it to D.C.Kansas City should be our nation's capital.
Seriously.
Because DC is already the nation's capital and has become what it is today due to that fact. You could put the nation's capital in any city and it would immediately morph it into something greater due to the history, museums, monuments, govt. employees, tourists, etc. I wonder what DC would be like today had the capital remained in Philly. Probably would look like Richmond.Kansas City is a very nice city, but I wouldn't compare it to D.C.
DC would not exist if the capital were not there. It was built for the sole purpose of being the capital. Georgetown would be there, as it was a town before George Washington decided to move the capital to that piece of land 10 mile by 10 mile square which constitutes DC today. DC is a fine capital. Any talk of moving the capital is crazy. How special is it that it was selected by the First President and then named after him. Kansas City got any history like that?Because DC is already the nation's capital and has become what it is today due to that fact. But I think the capital is just fine in DC.
I completely agree. Where did I say otherwise? :cheers:DC would not exist if the capital were not there. It was built for the sole purpose of being the capital. There is a real debate ... what to do about Jeff. City. I think Missouri could do better than that. I have only been in town a couple of times, so I am sure I missed a lot, but, seriously, not very impressive. I have seen a lot of capitols, and Missouri's reminds me a lot of Kentucky's in Frankfurt, KY. But, Kentucky did not put theirs in Frankfurt's downtown, instead devoting a large tract that is surrounded by turn of the century old, impressive houses and it sits on a large hill overlooking the river in town. It has a nice feel. Jeff City ... not so much. The function of a state capitol is administrative, so I have no idea how it is as a functional capitol, but I think it would look a lot better in Saint Charles or Independence.Good-lookin' pictures..! :bowtie: How about STL as the executive branch..KC as the legislative branch and Jefferson City as the judiciary branch???
