^^ I have always wondered the same thing. But may be its because the majority population in this area is affluent and dont overwhelmingly use public transport. And the road network in this area is way better than rest of karachi with the exception of may be DHA.
I think they should make three ring roads. One outer ring road circling whole of karachi and two straight expressways in the shape of X with Hasan square at the centre of X and the four ends of X connecting the outer ring road. The X doesnt have to be straight line and routes may be adjusted for practical reason. This will look so cool from plane.
First of all I think we have to abandon the concept of 3 lane (one side) expressways. The city like karachi needs more than 3 lane expressways as most of our main arteries are already 4 lanes so having 3 lanes expressways doesnt make sense.https://imgur.com/a/uY7YW
For a metropolis like Karachi, atleast these roads should be 6 lane access controlled expressways. The idea is that the expressways are only good enough if they are interconnected. Otherwise there will always be a bottleneck where the expressway ends and regular gali mohalla starts.

Certainly Karachi needs additional lanes at important arteries but i disagree with your elevated expressway idea as they're eye sore and more expensive. I think the existing roads must be converted into expressways or signal-free corridor with controlled entry and exit points if you put it like that to solve the traffic issue. But only those which are marked by At203.First of all I think we have to abandon the concept of 3 lane (one side) expressways. I like your idea but only if you are proposing elevate expressways and they dont use the current roads. Because instead of converting these into expressways we can improve the traffic speed on these roads by enforcing traffic laws, reducing and streamlining exits and entrances and prohibiting the parking on the road.
Look what happened to SF. Even after its lane has been increased and quality of road is improved but still the traffic speed is slow and still there are bottlenecks. Not to forget the infamous bottleneck created by the great Faujis.
Please also consider my idea I have quoted. But your idea is better but only if they are all elevated ones and are at least 8 lanes with proper shoulders. But I am sure environmentalist will oppose the idea of elevated motorways on current roads. Also by making it elevated the costs will go sky high (around US$2 billion) and will take around 10 years to complete.
Also can you tell me how many KMs are these expressways.
This is what I said that elevated expressways are expensive and are not environment friendly. And I fully believe that our road network and size is good for urban road but we need to improve the compliance of traffic laws and proper exit and entrances.Certainly Karachi needs additional lanes at important arteries but i disagree with your elevated expressway idea as they're eye sore and more expensive.
