Pampa-Sannidhanam road to be repaired

The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) will repair the Pampa-Sannidhanam Swami Ayyapan Road by concreting the badly damaged portions on a war-footing, Devaswom Minister Kadannappally Ramachandran has said.

The decision was taken at a meeting of various department heads and board officials convened by Mr. Ramachandran here on Saturday to review the arrangements for the annual Sabarimala pilgrimage.

Mr. Ramachandran said the government was bound to complete the repair and maintenance work on various roads leading to Sabarimala before November 15. He said special government permission would be ensured, if needed, for the time-bound completion of the work.

He said cooperation and coordination among various government agencies and the TDB were necessary for the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.

An official representing the Forest Department informed the meeting that the department had not opposed concreting of Swami Ayyappan Road as in the case of the Marakkottom-Sannidhanam Chandranandan Road.

Nice thread!
Hope we could live through our roads here.

BTW, it is nice to hear that some progress is being made for 45M NH. Hope things will be going smoothly and the Kunjiramans mind their own business.

Just one question... If some one has meaningful insight, would appreciate..

Why Mathrubhumi is dead against the road widening projects in Kerala??..

Even the latest reports appear seem to do more harm than good by saying "eventhough the centre has not approved the reccommended package by the state govt, they are going ahead with aquisition.."

Mathrubhumi is/was/will be against development projects. They are of the same kind of Solidarity movement. They were dead against the express highway project too.

Those who know the difficulty;they will support road widening and request for 45m.

  • Pappancode Vikasana Samithy(The joint committee of Residential Associations,Social & Cultural Organisations) requested the Govt. to develop all the major junctions fro Karamana to Kaliyikkavila to be developed in 45m.

Source

  • FRAN requested the Govt. to extend the LA process upto Kaliyikkavila.

But Craps like these will always oppose that

  • The Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi will conduct harthal on November 10(Today) from Pappanamcode to Kaliyikkavila.

^^ But those cities have bypasses. Widening is not happening inside the cities. Do they have property near to the bypass?

Once the widening/NHAI project kicks off, NH-47 will bypass TVM city from Kazhakkoottam till TN border. This widening is of the "current" NH, which will no longer be a NH once the NHAI stuff gets done. The bypass will become the real highway.

BTW, once this happens, it would be nice if SH-1 were extended from Kesavadasapuram to Kaliyikkavila using the current NH alignment.

Karamana-Kaliyikkavila is a stretch in that part of old NH 47 which connects Trivandrum with Kanyakumari.

Karamana is a major junction of Trivandrum city. Kaliyikkavila is the state border, about 31 kms from Trivandrum.

Within Trivandrum city, infact the four laning had been completed till 'Neeramankara', about 1 km further from Karamana perhaps more than 5 years back.

This stretch would be one of the oldest roads in Kerala, dating back to the 17th century. Travancore State Transport Department (Now KSRTC) had started plying buses imported from UK from 1930s or so. The road was then a concrete one. It was a vital link in the civilisation of this region.

Now this stretch passes through the densely populated areas of Trivandrum City and Trivandrum Capital Region. Its like a continous urban area hence the demolitions/acquisitions would be more and hence width kept at 30.2 metre and the Bypass is there with 45m.

The 'Trivandrum-Neyyattinkara' combined bypass will help motorists to take deviation at the northern entrance of Trivandrum Corporation at Kazhakuttom and then exit through the southern end of Kovalam/Vizhinjam and get in to TN. The highway till Kovalam is ready from the last decade.

Towards Neeramankara.

We are approaching the new bridge over Karamana (towards Kanyakumari). This was opened in 2004 as a part of the four laning work.

The old stone bridge is on the other side of the divided carriageway.

The bridge was opened in 1854 by the Maharajah of Travancore, Uthram Thirunal Marthanda Varma. The news has appeared in The Illustrated London News Vol XXV of 5th August 1854 titled “Opening of a New Bridge at Travancore - The Rajah's State Procession.”
