FK Metalist Kharkiv

The capacity of the existing stadium is being increased from 30,000 to 41,111. Plus the roof is being added as well as various modernizations. It has a convenient location with extreme proximity to a subway/metro station, which will get you anywhere in the city. Subway system has 3 operational lines.

The athletic tracks will be the only reminder that this is an old stadium

This is where the ticket will be sold

Notice the proximity to the subway station

And the video clip

Good for Ukraine, it will have great stadiums all over the country. Will do wonders for Ukrainian League.

It has advantage over Russia, where the only good stadiums are getting built Moscow and St Petes.

And also the owners of the stadium FC Metalist have qualified for UEFA Cup this season, they will defenetly need a large stadium and after Euro it will get filled up, as Kharkiv is the second largest city in Ukraine.
i dont like it much but nice job ;)
Unfortunately local goverment didn't want to spend money on the new stadium, so investors (FC Metalist Kharkiv) were brought in to reconstruct the old one, i have even heard that there is a possibility that this will be the venue for one of quarter finals.
My friend from Kharkiv says it's a better arena to experience the game than some of the German ones where WC2006 was hosted (he went there for the games).
To be honest it does resemble two world cup venues, Gottlieb Daimler Stadion and AWD Arena. But i like Metalist more. :)
Yes, the new glassy facade will be awesome.

And it'll be a fourth largest stadium in Ukraine, right? Or will the Lvivian be fourth?

Olympic 85~k
New Kyivan 65k+
Donetsk 50k+
Lviv / Kharkiv both at 40k+
Dnipro 34k
Odesa ??

I am not very sure, i believe Lviv still doesn't have finalised project. Hochtief is not an offcial developer tey, I have heard that it is somewhere at 30k-40k range.
The works on east stand have started, by the looks of it the old one will be compltely demolished and new one will be built over it.

The stadiums are ok, but unfortunately they aren't so impressive. I hoped for for more impressive things.

i hope so :)

If you mean the venues for Euro 2012, than i agree with you to a certain extend, since Kharkiv is a reserve city and the local club agreed to pay the expences for the reconstruction of the old stadium, than no one would want to build a brand new stadium... However one thing about Euro in Poland & Ukraine is that for the tournament more than 1 400 000 tickets will be sold, which is a record for UEFA European Football Championship.

Well, this reserve stadium is not so extravagant, but still quite good and original with the facade, but I don't think you can argue that Donetsk Shakhtar isn't impressive :)

To a certain extant i agree with you but you got to remember that the only world class stadium is getting build in Donetsk two others in Kiev and Lviv have not started the constraction yeat some say that the one in Kiev could cost 1bl euro so that one could be something impressive.
Plus- speaking of impressivness is completely nonsense for one more reason:
we still don't know the designs of stadiums in Warsaw (70k), Wroclaw (45k), reserve stadium in Chorzow (modernisation), final design of the stadium in Krakow (2 stands already built, but various... ugly projects emerging). Plus- recently a new rendring of the stadium in Poznan has been revealed- 5k extra seating, very nice bowl shape, except for one stand already covered...

So for now we know less than half the venues- talking at this point is... pointless :)
Yes, and we know don't about the new stadiums in Kyiv and Lviv, which should be something incredible. Out of Ukrainians stadiums Kharkivs will be the only standard one, although it's a still damn good stadium :)
