I opened this thread because works on the Boulevard aren't done yet.
Though Lights and the road are done.
But there are still Traffic lights, direction signs that have to be done, as well as Sidewalks. and replanting of trees.

Look at the driving of Congolese.

That is not good enough for pedestrian crossing, We need crossing bridges:bash: :eek2::runaway: Look at the rubbish already in place after such a short time since rehabilitation and cleaning up :bash:

This looks so nice. I Think the traffic lights should be put In place as well as refuse bins to be mounted on each lamp post. Could you kindly post more photos of the boulevard? The most recent ones plz

They are supposed to install Traffic lights, place sidewalks, and replant trees along the boulevard (according to Roger Busimwa General manager of big public works).
Comparing this road before and after the completion of this project really makes one wonder what the original city planners were thinking. The difference is night and day.
By the way, if you use Google Earth the most recent imagery is from June 30th, 2010. You can see some of the celebrations in Kinshasa including parade processions on this road and crowds at the People's Palace.

Most of the Boulevard was 2x2 and a short pace was 2x3. But the whole lenth has been make 2x4. Besides, there are plans to extend it to the easten suburb with a flyover . (2 underneath and 2 overhead )Comparing this road before and after the completion of this project really makes one wonder what the original city planners were thinking. Although the boulevard has been opened for traffic, for obvious reasons, the modernisation work is still on-going. They still have to install a lane divider, traffic lights, sidewalks (pavements), bus shelters, road signs and plant roadside trees.

It will take longer than expected and the reason is called “budgetary constraints”. The funds earmarked for the reconstruction programme ($ 6 billion) had to be revised downwards ($ 3 million) as a result of WB/IMF pressure on the government to renegotiate the Congolese-Chinese Deal. Many projects have been cancelled and those maintained are being executed at a less sustained pace than initially planned.How long will this take? Five years? They have got to be kidding

Initially the deal amounted to $ 9 billion ($ 3 billion for the revival of the mining industry and $ 6 billion for the reconstruction of infrastructure). As the deal was reduced to $ 6 billion, only $ 3 billion remained for infrastructure.
Debt relief comes with a price: the loss of independence and dignity. Whats the worst thing about this Oil prices thing is that. It was already expensive .Again, the same institutions requested the government not to subsidize the oil price anymore, hence, the steep increase of gas price this last week.
Worst of all. Much of this Oil is not government subsidy , its private. Now they are crushing businessmen their efforts.
We are doomed.
