The former Standard-Chartered building (Oginga Odinga St & Mosque Rd), is already demolished and a new modern building is proposed. Below are just proposals for what should be built. Final product might be different but for sure, something brand new is on it's way.

This thread is dedicated for whatever structure will be erected in this area.

Below are literature from TEAM 2 ARCHITECTS who are proposing a 14-storied building.

In response to the central location of the site in Kisumu CBD, it was necessary to provide a potential usages both in terms of urban entity and returns. The 14-storey office block is designed to react satisfy a demand for high quality work space and with the structure forming a scaled transition to the surrounding low rise buildings. The entire complex is defined by a multilayered office premises placed on a commercial/retail and Kenton’s administration offices & storage volume.

The first two levels complex hosts retail shops, restaurants and Kenton’s administration office premises. The 5th floor comprises of exhibition halls/meetings rooms which would be for hiring purpose. The floor hosts a spill out terrace area which visually and functionally creates a buffer between the busy commercial area below and the office tower above. The provision of a convention centre set up is projected by its demand and returns. The 10 storey office block comprises of 9 constant floors of office space with multi functional areas. The central atrium in the office block provides natural sunlight.. The facade is a palette of various architectural elements yet binding them together to form a architecturally appealing complex enhancing its entity to the surrounding buildings.

The functionally separate volumes with their shapes and the materiality of their facades are juxtaposed to form an anchored and vibrant complex.

Who actually owns Kenton's?

Word on the ground is that the owner of the building that will be built on this site is a Nairobi politician.

Bro, that answer is as general as it could ever be. Can't get further than that or can it? There are so many Nairobi politicians.

Just thinking about it, I think that only business people can be able to build such a building with income earned from individually owned businesses. How can a politician get all the money to build such a building in the Centre of kisumu if they didn't steal it from public sources. Sioni kweli.

^^As much as a lot of the politicians in the country may be thieving, might scoundrels, you do know many have personal businesses that provide decent revenues for them?? In short being a politician and a businessman is not mutually exclusive

I agree mkuu, but in this case, the fact was that that gentleman is a politician. I do believe there was no error of omission when the profession was mentioned. But again, businessman in Kenya could mean anything, from selling air to hair. Should we still call those selling air businessmen?
