Quartz Ridge, a new bio-climatically responsive mixed-use development in Melawati, Malaysia for client Sime Darby. Comprising retail, office, serviced apartments, SOHO live/work units and two landscaped water bodies, the development aims to set the benchmark for sustainable mixed-use communities in the Kuala Lumpur urban conurbation. Taking its cue from the topographic folds of the local landscape and the quartz ridge from which the scheme takes its name, the dramatic forms will create an important new regional landmark.
In addition to embracing green technologies that maximise energy efficiency and minimise waste, the buildings are oriented to minimise low angle sun impact whilst harvesting prevailing south westerly winds to naturally ventilate the interiors. This is made possible through the introduction of breeze ways and skygardens that, through evapo transpiration, can help to reduce the heat island effect and provide pleasant internal and external environments that draw the greenery of the surroundings into the sky.
Quartz Ridge is scheduled for completion in 2012.
