The project entitled “Košice – Candidate for the European Capital of Culture 2013“ has already established some firm ground to build on. The project campaign is to be run under the banner rendering the message: INTERFACE – Point of Connection. The idea behind this project intends to pinpoint the communication conducted between the city and its citizens, on the one hand, i.e. the inward communication, and, on the other hand, the communication aimed outwards, at the visitors to the city and the entire European Union. The project plans to provide every person interested in culture and cultural life of this city with some space to transform the city, to make the city nicer, more cultural. The project shall be open to any innovative and creative ideas born either out of amateur or professional environments. This is an approach and procedure, which the Project Board endorsed on its second session held in June 2007. The purpose of the suggested efforts is to set out for the streets and residential areas and bring culture closer to as large audience as possible. The point is to approach even for such city parts where one would hardly go looking for any culture at all, and introduce culture, at low expense, to the places where culture is unusual to be present. Small galleries or theatres for the audience of 20-30 people will not, apparently, save this city, yet they might attract some fans who would not, otherwise find their way to conventional theatre buildings and cultural institutions.
