Korek tourism project underway - $60 million - Korek mountain

Erbil, Oct. 17 (AKnews) – A tourism project on Korek Mountain is to be implemented in two phases, said the supervisor for the project in Ruwanduz, 62 km north east Erbil. proza3

Najdat Farhad, the supervisor told AKnews the venture, one of the leading projects for booming economy and tourism in the Kurdistan Region, is to be carried out on a 500,000 square meters on the Mountain around Ruwanduz.

Construction of a grand hotel, 150 motels, some green spaces, an amusement park , a telecabine, a grand restaurant, a modern shopping center, and the first sky glider amusement across Iraq are in the project.

The local Darin Company sponsors the project which costs $60 million U.S. dollars and the Austrian Doppel Mayr Company implements it, the supervisor said.

The cable car which is one km above the ground stretches four km between Bekhal mountainous resort and Korek mountaintop and according to Farhad 70% of its provisions is completed.

In the first phase, some 50 motels and the sky glider will be completed with $20 million dollars. The rest of the plan will be implemented in the second stage, Farhad said. He expected the project may take up to 18 months to be completed.

Ruwanduz one the attractive towns in the Kurdistan Region is located on a cliff surrounded by mountains. Jundiayan and Bekhal are not but two of its many attractions. The town is swarmed by mass of Arab and foreign tourists during the summer holidays.

This looks promising, so far most projects in Kurdistan have been carried out so good for them, great news.

Burhan Mustafa, Soran tourism director told AKnews the two bases are to facilitate for tourists because the two towns are far from Soran, where the only tourism center in the area is found. The bases will also hand out to the tourists in case any problem occurs.

There are over nine attractions in Choman and over six in Mergasor.

The Kurdistan Region is swarmed by foreign and local visitors especially in summer. The officials have focused on taking the utmost from theses sites for improving the economy.

my parents bought a house there as well im thinking in buying a house in slemani but i grew up there , majidi mall is under construction and few other major projects right now , they are trying to catch up with Hewler ;)
