Kurilpa Structure Plan
Council is preparing a structure plan to guide the future development of the Kurilpa area of South Brisbane, extending from Melbourne Street to Boundary Street, Montague Road and the river. This will provide a framework for managing growth, change, land use and development, having regard to its prime location near the Central Business District.

Kurilpa?? I've never heard of it and I've spent most of my life in Brisbane.
I like the plan and don't have very many qualms with it. The 16 storey height limit is suitable, although it's surprising they want so much commerical space in the area (224,000sq/m) and only 2000 apartments. I suppose being close to transport and the CBD this is an ideal outcome though.

Anymore talk about the 20 storey limit being brought in?

It's the name of the area GoMA is built on and also I believe the name of the one of the stretches of the river around there.
The 20 storeys is if they reach the green credentials only...otherwise it's 16. This may have changed though.
Seems fairly well laid out, i wouldn't see too many issues arising at all.

kurilpa point is the name of the bend in the river where the william jolly bridge crosses

The issues often arise because something called development would be happening in and near West End...the NIMBY capital of Brisbane!!
^^ The NIMBY/hippy/grass capital of Brisbane....

True, but its away from the true heart of West End so there wont probably be NIMBY issues
^^There has actually already been quite a big uproar over this already saying it will destroy the character of the area.
That part of Brisbane won't have any NIMBY issues (I am a NIMBY freak of West End) since it is currently a cluster f*** of homeless, toxic waste, abandoned factories and warehouses.

Clean it up, I say, just leave the rest of West End intact :)

Not really. There is always a little bit of complaint about development everywhere, but development of Kurilpa hasn't annoyed anyone siginficantly to actually do anything about it. Compare this to the anti- groups organised for the Hale Street Bridge and a development on Annerley road. I remember the article in the West Ender a few weeks ago which was on this topic, and there was no mention of lack of support for the developments.
I've just seen plenty of stuff about the loss of Heritage in this area and that they don't want all the yuppies taking away the grit of west end. It hasn't happened for about a month though.
