Kuwait to hold international conference on rebuilding Iraq

https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/2...-international-conference-on-rebuilding-iraq/

Kuwait has started extensive contacts with the World Bank to prepare for hosting a donor conference for the reconstruction of the Iraqi areas that have been liberated from Daesh control, Kuwait’s Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah announced yesterday.

Speaking in an event that was held at the Iraqi embassy to celebrate the liberation of Iraq’s northern city of Mosul, Al-Jarallah said that “there was no date set for the conference,” adding that “it is likely to be in the first quarter of next year [2018].”

“Kuwait has always stood by Iraq via the international coalition (fighting Daesh) and bilaterally,” the Kuwaiti minister noted.

Al-Jarallah pointed out that “there is coordination and harmony between Kuwait and Iraq to overcome any problems that may occur.” He also congratulated the Iraqi people on the recapture of Mosul fromm Daesh.

On 11 July, Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, told the Iraqi Prime Minister, Haider Al-Abadi, in a phone call that his country was ready to host an international conference on rebuilding the liberated areas in Iraq.

The World Bank had also welcomed the initiative, stressing that it would support the long-term reconstruction of the liberated areas in Iraq.

Just drop the demands for compensation instead, all of this is to gain influence in Iraqi politics, nothing else.
wow I have not heard that testimony before. i heard someone saying that the iraq-kuwait war was the first propaganda war and you can see why.

not saying the invasion was right. saddam the idiot should have been building his country and not starting wars with iran and kuwait. ironically kuwait was supporting the war against iran with billions of dollars only for saddam to turn on them...but it was we iraqis who suffered the most.

saddam should have told the kuwaitis and saudis to fight iran themselves - they purchase billions of weapons. unfortunately he fell into the trap because of the ridiculous arab nationalism ideal and the biggest losers were iraqis. while the gulf was building iraq was being destroyed

having said all this i dont hate the gulf arabs i blame the iraqi govt for doing their bidding

What demands? Iraq has already paid every penny they demanded.

October 5th of 2017 - Iraq delivers gas to Kuwait as part of Gulf War compensation

Kuwait has approved an Iraqi offer to received natural gas as part of the Gulf War compensation it is due, Kuwaiti oil minister Essam Al-Marzouq announced yesterday.
It's not over, there's billions more that need to be paid it seems. Iraq and Saudi should make a deal to take over those small states in the region.

not sure why we need a thread for such thing

even if its worth anything , , not more than 2 lines in economic thread , ,

i ask moderators to delete it.
I hope Kuwait focuses mostly on rebuilding Basra. Our Khaleeji brethren in Basra deserve the best. <3
So there is no actual conference scheduled
And it's supposed to be for areas liberated from daesh
and Kuwait hasn't promised a penny in any funds from their own coffers.. just to fill some empty hotel beds and conference hall for a few days?

Clutching at straws a bit?
Trying too hard?
Lezget Johnson?

It's for rebuilding all of Iraq, not just the areas liberated from Daesh.

And Kuwait will definitely make its own investments.

This is very big. Kuwaitis are very interested in this conference. It'll take place in January 2018.

Kuwaitis love the Iraqi people, regardless of history and politics. And I'm sure the feeling is mutual when it comes to many Iraqis.

This initiative will hopefully bring the two peoples together.

Actions speak louder than words

Kuwait sponsored the collective punishment of Iraqi people and the deaths of millions of Iraqis as revenge from 1991 to 2015.

All revenge for 6 and a half months of Iraq's occupation that killed less than. 1 person for every thousand that Kuwait sponsored the murder of in "revenge'.

Those actions speak louder than any words you spout.

There's a lot of bad history between Kuwait and Iraq because of the Gulf War, but most Kuwaitis and Iraqis don't want anything to do with it and are in no way connected to it.

What matters now is that Kuwait and Iraq strengthen bilateral economic and cultural ties. It will greatly benefit the people of Iraq and Kuwait alike.

History cannot be changed, but the future is in the hands of the people.

The most successful nations think about the future. It's time for the Iraqis and Kuwaitis to strengthen bilateral ties, in which case this conference couldn't have come at a better time.

Kuwait is still extorting money from Iraq in 2017 whilst it's own crimes of sponsored collective murder and destruction against Iraq (which easily surpass 1000 times what Iraq inflicted on Kuwait)) go completely unnoticed let alone punished.

Forget about politics for a second and just think of the people of Kuwait and Iraq.

There are many Kuwaiti individuals/businesses that are planning to invest in Iraq. And many Kuwaitis have already invested in your country over the years. In fact, some have financed the redevelopment of holy Shia sites, airports, residential areas, etc. A lot of Kuwaiti donors have financed the construction of new schools and hospitals in Iraq as well, most recently in Mosul.

Can you forget about politics for a second? This is about people helping one another, not governments.

i thought kuwaitis were second grade citizens, same level as kurds with only limited right to speech and expression. how do you expect to build a successful nation state when you allow anyone these freedoms :S
