A meeting between the county government and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) took place on Saturday 8th February,2014.
JICA under its Transport and Infrastructure strategy is carrying out a master plan study for special economic zones: Mombasa, Kisumu and Lamu.
It's in the Mombasa corridor that the Dongo Kundu project lies. 60% of this project will take place in Kwale County.

The following things were agreed during the meeting:
(i) From March - April, Japan is working out the ground design whose report will be released by the end of June focusing on both short term and long term developments.

(ii) In its program, JICA will be targeting industries.
(iii) All important stakeholders will be engaged through a Joint Committee.
(iv) A senior county officer to be appointed to represent the county in all the meetings.
(v) A consultant team from JICA is incharge of clarifying all benefits anticipated within the county.
(vi) All other investors are invited to the Dongo Kundu project.

From today's Business Daily, Money & Markets, pg 9:

Previously:

•Titanium miner Base Resources is claiming refund for goods bought locally.
•The company joins a long queue of exporting firms making refund claims of more than Sh20 billion for the export of zero rated goods which allow producers to claim back VAT on inputs.
•Last year, Base Resources reported a Sh565 million loss for its operations in Kwale compared to a Sh28 million loss in 2012.
