It's mara salvatrucha 13, so it's MS 13, not NS 13. Not really a new gang.
They were accused by the police in El Salvador of having made contact with an al Qaeda operative who wanted to buy weapons. US intelligence organizations are skeptical. The cutting of of body parts is with a machete and is only in El Salvador as far as I read.

I bet, Most of MS-13 are found in South Central LA and some are found in Central/Downtown LA too.

MS-13 isn't a "new" gang in LA. They have been here for awhile. There was actually a huge MS-13 law enforcement bust last week or so. Where there were over 100 MS-13 members captured in the US. 17 "big dog" members being caught in Los Angeles.
They do have ties to Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups and were actually caught in Boston trying to smuggle weapons for terrorists. There have been MS-13 style tortures here in the US where they will hack a victim's limbs off.

They are also skilled with Machete's. There was a report in either Boston or New York City where some MS-13 gangmembers took revenge on some guy who owed them drug money by chasing him down in the streets and hacking him up.

The gang began in LA because the immigrants from El Salvador, a recent new group of Latinos in LA, grouped together for protection and comraderie. The LAPD/INS caught wind of how violent this gang was and started deporting members of MS13 back to El Salvador, even though they grew up in LA. Some of these MS13 members didn't even speak spanish and they got sent to El Salvador!
Anyways, it was these MS13 OGs that began the spread of their gang in El Salvador as well! Throughout their jail system, they have MS13 OGs recruiting new members. From what I hear it's a big problem down in El Salvador...and that the youth down there idolize everything from LA.
