Definitely my friend. All of the world comes to visit and live here.
Great comment.Azn_chi_boi said:yes LA is world class, its as world class as Chicago is, its just a young world class city that will get better and better as the population will go higher and higher.
Just because LA is sprawl, and city's downtown maybe small, its qualtity over quanitity.
People think LA isnt world class, because of its suburbs, mini downtown, nearly no skyline, but it is world class
here is all the answers............
Who knows? But I'm sure cities like NYC, Chicago and Los Angeles fall into that category.alex3000 said:What's exactly a world-class city???

WOW. :eek2:LosAngelesBeauty said:OMG, this thread is like the "Big Paper Wars!" Is there really any debate whether LA is world class? I don't understand where people doubt LA's status? Is it just because we don't rail? We have plenty of buses.
I'm almost certain people would place Buenos Aires above LA in this forum just because it's "exotic." Well, news flash! Buenos Aires probably has less rail than LA!!!
World-class is defined by what the city offers and also global presence. LA has both. Where do you think popular culture is spawned? How about fashion? We are the headquarters for fashion trends. We have world-class museums with large, impressive collections and architecture. We have the finest hotels, restaurants, shopping, clubs, etc.
Talk about being famous! Who HASN'T heard of Sunset Blvd? Santa Monica Blvd? Rodeo Drive? Wilshire Blvd? Hollywood and Vine?
From hole-in-the-wall restaurants to 5-star sushi bars, LA has it all.
Well said. While I've never actually been to LA, your points are very well made. Sydney has a shocking rail system (half hour delays, cancellations practically every day, and poorly advised trackwork) and yet I doubt anyone would deny that Sydney is a world-class city (albeit a small one).LosAngelesBeauty said:OMG, this thread is like the "Big Paper Wars!" What about the busiest seaport in the nation? LAX? Yeah, it's old, but age brings character. Not everything on earth should be BRAND NEW to be respected. Otherwise Beijing and London would be shitholes.
What about the beaches? The mountains? The most extensive freeway system in the world? Sure, it's plugged up, but that's because this place is one of the most popular cities to live in the world!
Not to mention some of the best universities like UCLA, Caltech, USC, Claremont Colleges, etc.
Griffith Park anyone? Getty Center? LACMA? Disney Hall? Two pritzker prize winning architects bred and live in LA: Gehry and Mayne.
And yes, we might not have the most extensive rail today, but we did at one point. History buffs wouldn't discount that. They would appreciate the contrast and work to ameliorate the issues. Take on the challenges. The future for LA is bright...Expo Line, Gold Line Eastside Extension, MTA studying subways again...
