Definitely my friend. All of the world comes to visit and live here.
yes LA is world class, its as world class as Chicago is, its just a young world class city that will get better and better as the population will go higher and higher.

Just because LA is sprawl, and city's downtown maybe small, its qualtity over quanitity.

People think LA isnt world class, because of its suburbs, mini downtown, nearly no skyline, but it is world class

here is all the answers............

Great comment. :)

LA has some mini skyscraper in somewhere, population in downtown are still growing and growing.
Let's put all of this city versus city bullshit aside, I as Chicagoan, can say that
Los Angeles is defintely a major "world class city", in every sense of the term. Just as Chi-Town is a world class city, as are a few other cities in the U.S.
What's exactly a world-class city???

Who knows? But I'm sure cities like NYC, Chicago and Los Angeles fall into that category. :)
There was already a poll on this where pretty much everyone but boosting morons said yes, and of course as the second largest city in the US it is world class .... when you look at the list of world cities it is there as well, it has alot of culture in food and institution so no matter how many of these polls are made or how many times this question is asked the answer will not change. You should know it is, you live there.
lol. Substructure only voted no so he's totally ignorant.

I thought Paris, Frankfurt, Rome and all dumbass European cities execpt UK, Turkey or Ireland are isn't world class at first time. Some other forum, its said Paris, Rome, Berlin and Frankfurt isn't world class though. European don't know about American are look differnet.

Thank You to you and everybody, that compliemented me.

Why did craeg and Substructure pcik " LA isnt a world city"?

That website I posted, was a great website, one the best I been to about LA.
If world class applies to the extent to which it contains elements found all over the world as well as the extent to which it influences the rest of the world, then LA is among the top few most world class cities around.
OMG, this thread is like the "Big Paper Wars!" Is there really any debate whether LA is world class? I don't understand where people doubt LA's status? Is it just because we don't rail? We have plenty of buses.

I'm almost certain people would place Buenos Aires above LA in this forum just because it's "exotic." Well, news flash! Buenos Aires probably has less rail than LA!!!

World-class is defined by what the city offers and also global presence. LA has both. Where do you think popular culture is spawned? How about fashion? We are the headquarters for fashion trends. We have world-class museums with large, impressive collections and architecture. We have the finest hotels, restaurants, shopping, clubs, etc.

Talk about being famous! Who HASN'T heard of Sunset Blvd? Santa Monica Blvd? Rodeo Drive? Wilshire Blvd? Hollywood and Vine?

What about the busiest seaport in the nation? LAX? Yeah, it's old, but age brings character. Not everything on earth should be BRAND NEW to be respected. Otherwise Beijing and London would be shitholes.

What about the beaches? The mountains? The most extensive freeway system in the world? Sure, it's plugged up, but that's because this place is one of the most popular cities to live in the world!

Not to mention some of the best universities like UCLA, Caltech, USC, Claremont Colleges, etc.

Griffith Park anyone? Getty Center? LACMA? Disney Hall? Two pritzker prize winning architects bred and live in LA: Gehry and Mayne.

And yes, we might not have the most extensive rail today, but we did at one point. History buffs wouldn't discount that. They would appreciate the contrast and work to ameliorate the issues. Take on the challenges. The future for LA is bright...Expo Line, Gold Line Eastside Extension, MTA studying subways again...

From hole-in-the-wall restaurants to 5-star sushi bars, LA has it all.

Well said. While I've never actually been to LA, your points are very well made. Sydney has a shocking rail system (half hour delays, cancellations practically every day, and poorly advised trackwork) and yet I doubt anyone would deny that Sydney is a world-class city (albeit a small one).

That said, the Sydney rail system is quite vast (300 or so route km - sorry, don't know miles). It's just got pathetic service, which is a result of government neglect (it's gov't run) and the poor decision made in the 60's to move to double-deck carriages (the slower loading times are only compounding the problems caused by the shared track corridors (this is despite the fact that there are 25 operational platforms at Sydney Central!).

My point is, don't dismiss a city on its rail system or its skyline, although the point on skyline isn't really reflected in Sydney because we have quite a built up CBD (or "downtown" as you americans call it). That said LA does have some purdy towers from what I can see on emporis.

Oh, and LOL on the sushi bars. I swear there's one on every corner in the city here.

Both cities have a bright future as long as they invest in better heavy rail (whether subways or above ground) NOW.

Stop posting stupid threads blink. Especially one's you've posted a zillion times already. Get over it.
Of course it's world-class. Or may be world-crass. Seriously, L.A.'s one serious pop-culture giant.
