PRESS RELEASE

Rendeavour, Lagos State Government Launch New City in Nigeria
LAGOS, Nigeria, January 29, 2019 /PRNewswire/ --

Africa's largest urban developer, Rendeavour, in partnership with the Lagos State Government, has broken ground on a new satellite city development in the Lekki Free Zone as part of a joint venture that boosts foreign direct investment in Nigeria and will create tens of thousands of jobs.

The project, Alaro City, is a mixed-income, city-scale development with industrial and logistics locations, complemented by offices, homes, schools, healthcare facilities, hotels, entertainment and 150 hectares (370 acres) of parks and open spaces.

FIRST PHASE OF RESIDENTIAL PLOTS AT ALARO CITY SOLD OUT
14 June 2019

Alaro City, the new inclusive city in the Lekki Free Zone, has sold out of its first phase of “Buy & Build” residential plots. The serviced plots were recently fully subscribed and phase 2 is now open.

Alaro City, was launched in January as a Joint Venture between the Lagos State Government and Rendeavour, the largest new city builder in Africa, to boost foreign direct investment in Nigeria and create tens of thousands of jobs.

“We expected high uptake of the plots, but the rate at which they sold out has been exceptional,” said Odunayo Ojo, CEO of Alaro City. “Alaro City is situated in a prime location in the Lekki Free Zone, making it one of the most exciting development projects to come to Lagos State. The location and exclusive benefits have undoubtedly been key selling points for buyers,” he continued.

Alaro City is an integrated mixed-use, city-scale development with industrial and logistics locations, complemented by offices, homes, schools, healthcare facilities, hotels, entertainment and 150 hectares (370 acres) of parks and open spaces. Asides the residential sales, there has also been a rapid uptake in commercial plots.

“The Lekki-axis has been a key driver in residential real estate over recent years. Alaro City offers a unique and valued investment proposition that the market clearly recognises,” said Gbenga Olayinan, Chairman of Estate Links Limited, a leading real estate consultancy. “As with any real estate investment, the real trick is to key in early,” he continued.

Located in the North West Quadrant of the Lekki Free Zone, Alaro City lies in the growth path of Lagos, one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities with a population of over 20 million. Alaro City is adjacent to the future international airport, the region’s largest deep-sea port, and major Nigerian and international companies.

Rendeavour, Alaro City’s developer, is building seven new cities in Africa: in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Zambia and Democratic Republic of the Congo. As a master developer, Rendeavour invests over $250 million in each project, creating the infrastructure and living and working spaces that will help sustain and accelerate Africa’s economic growth, meet the aspirations of Africa’s burgeoning middle classes, and serve as a catalyst for further urban development.

^^ I wish they don't. Stadiums are very inefficient use of land especially in a Land constraint place like Lagos Island. They are best built around ring roads away from the city core when in Large cities like Lagos, Abuja, PH, Kano. Smaller cities like can accommodate them in the center. The current small size of Onikan stadium is good enough for the island. Anything bigger will be wasteful use of scarce land. Also solar does not work really well when it's constantly under the shadows of high rise buildings.

The Benefactor: Yemisi Shyllon

The plan for a museum at the PAU can be traced back to 2011 when it was housed on the university’s website and called, ‘The Virtual Museum of Modern and Contemporary Nigerian Art’. The proposal for a physical space was, however, presented in 2014 by Prince Yemisi Shyllon, who allegedly owns one of the most important collections of modern African Art, with over 7,000 works in his private collection. In June 2015, Shyllon made a substantial donation towards the construction and long-term sustainability of the museum, as well as over 1,000 artworks – a collection which includes traditional art, modern paintings and sculptures, as well as photographs of Nigeria’s fast disappearing cultural festivals. The modern paintings include works by notable artists such as Aina Onabolu, Ben Enwonwu, Yusuf Grillo, El Anatsui, Simon Okeke, Uche Okeke, Akinola Lasekan, and Bruce Onobrakpeya. Also, in the collection are paintings by contemporary artists Diseye Tantua, Segun Aiyesan, Kelani Abass, and several others, as well as sculptural pieces by Adeola Balogun, Ben Enwonwu, Oladapo Afolayan, Isiaka Osunde, Okpu Eze, and photographs of Nigeria’s cultural festivals predominantly produced by Ariyo Oguntimehin.

I just found out about a new mall in ikeja called jara mall, does anyone have any information on it. It’s anchor tenant is jara stores.
I think it was opened early this year. Apart from Jara (which is billed as a ‘discount’ store), it has the usual suspects such as Dominos Pizza, ColdStone Creamery, So Fresh, I-Store, Medplus, etc.
