Where did you get that information from? Who halt the project?
I asked that question based on some info I got from a friend who said there is some disput going on within the government over the land protection issue, which he said, they threaten to halt the project if the reasons are sustantial enough to do so. Just asking if anybody has any news on that here.

Nigeria needs to open its doors and lax it visa rules by alot so it will make it easier for tourists visiting the country, it would be foolish to do otherwise. All this talk about us doing what US and these developed countries do is just sentimental crap that isn't going to take us anywhere, how can anyone even compare a country like Nigeria to the US? The US can afford to be strict because everybody wants to go there with a place like Nigeria that wants to begin a thriving tourist industry we need to open our borders and when we get to the point that we need to regulate we shall accordingly anything else is uncivilsed. This whole tit for tat stuff should be thrown out the window.
i dont quite agree with your viewpoint.

just because we are a developing country doesnt mean we should just throw our doors open to anybody.

Nigeria is a resource rich developing country, we dont have to put up with any rubbish from anybody.

the west that nigerians are running to , what exactly are they going to do there ?

too many stories of messed up nigerians in europe, prostituting and selling drugs. living in homelesss shelters.

lets stay in our countries and build them .

It's like EnergyX is not actually the company responsible for the development of this project as in this story:

More information on Eko Atlantic City.

...The commissioner said the proposed Eko Atlantic City would be sited on the reclaimed land area covering 8,000,000 square metres, which had been lost to erosion in the last 100 years.

Oniru said that the reclaimed land would commence from the western boundary, which is the existing east mole and extended eastwards with a total length of 6,500 metres and the average of 1,260 metres width.

...The southern boundary, Oniru added would be protected by the main sea bed with an extended length of 6,500 metres while the northern boundary would remain the existing Ahmadu Bello Way, being reconstructed to an eight lane highway to be known as the coastal road.

The commissioner added that infrastructural facilities at the city would comprise an international standard road network, surface water drainage, dedicated electrical power generating plant and underground distribution, water supply treatment plant and distribution mains, sewage collection mains and a modern treatment plant, network of service ducts to provide Information Technology services and post construction maintenance and management of the facility.

In his technical brief, the Managing Director of South EnergyX, Mr David Frame, said the company was poised to deliver a well-maintained and clean city on the Atlantic which would run for 24 hours.

According to him “all marine works are expected to be completed by the end of 2013 with infrastructural work completed by 2015.

A publication titled “300 days in office” of Governor Babatunde Fashola issued by the state government in March 2008, said the Eko Atlantic city project was envisaged as the largest civil works project ever undertaken in Africa...

I hope you are right. But should the it be Fashola's priority? BTW, I am a big fan of Fashola.
It's a PRIVATE project. If Lagos does not want it, the PRIVATE developers will simply take their monies elsewhere and put it to other use. And frankly, anything that attracts investment, creates jobs, generates revenue and generally improves living conditions in Lagos, should be Fashola's priority.

Agreed. I didnt know it was being bank rolled by private sector funds. It is pleasing to learn that folks have enough confidence in Fashola's Lagos, so much so they are happy to invest such huge sums as will be required by the megacity project . . . especially in this global economic climate.

Lesson for other governors and Mr. President: Create the enabling environment and legal framework, sit back and watch the economy blossom.
