Ex-Minister Oduah bags Performance Award at Akwaaba show

Ex-Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah has bag a Legends of Travel Award at the just conclude Abuja Bantaba, the meeting events for travel professionals, organised by the Akwaaba Travel Market.

According to the organisers of the event, Oduah left a mark on the “aviation sands of times that will take a long time to be surpassed” affirming that she upgraded the Airports, transformed some into international Airports and started the construction of brand new international terminals in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano and Enugu. She transformed the Airport environment in Nigeria.”

Oduah recently received an award from the Ikenga Award for Excellence Foundation for her enviable performance as Minister of Aviation and her transformation of the sector.

It is ironic that commendations and awards are being given to Oduah whose tenure was turbulent and controversial, but indications show that these approval ratings of what she did as Minister was not and cannot be eclipsed by the negative campaigns that led to her removal as Minister.

The organiser said Oduah was able to remodel and restructure 11 airports out of the 22 airports owned by the Federal Government and kick-started the comprehensive rehabilitation of the other 11 airports of which work had reached advanced stage before she was removed.

“Under Oduah, the Federal Government reached a deal with Chinese Exim Bank and the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) for the building of five new airport terminals at the airports in Kano, Enugu, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja; work has started at the site of the new terminals and the constriction is billed to be completed by early 2016.”

What Oduah has achieved in the short space of time is already boosting air travel in Nigeria as more domestic carriers are coming in to join the market while new foreign airlines are coming to operate in Nigeria, so that the country will take full advantage of its high population of international travellers, the Akwaaba team told reporters.

“The former Minister of Aviation also introduced Aerotropolis, which is simply described as the airport city, which objective is to create businesses around the four designated airports in Kano, Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt and develop a city of enterprises that would be galvanised by travellers and airport users to boost commerce and employment in the country.” It said in a statement.

CCECC have been hard at work, particularly at the new MMIA terminal in Ikeja and at the ongoing terminal in Abuja. The images below are from December, 2015 and show the progress at the construction site in Ikeja, Lagos. The facade is essentially complete, while work on the secondary building is also commendable. The airport is expected to be completed in December of this year and will help MMIA attain 15 million PAX a year upon completion.

Several other ancillary buildings are also currently under construction in Ikeja. However the concern remains, how all these disconnected edifices will interrelate and create a 'whole'.

Is it me, or does this one looks like the one in enugu.
Bearing in mind two things:
1). construction actually started at same a little before the rest, (i.e. Abuja, Lagos, etc).
2). If u notice their is the absence of the multi-story car-park in the photo.
Just wondering guys
