Landau is situated in the south of the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate and has a population of around 44,000. Here´s the first part of some pics I took there recently:
Have to love all those "Altbau Stadtteile" have so much charm and quality of life... One question, Why that inscriptions in french in that gravestone? I read he was a captain of a regiment but don´t know what they were doing there and why it was burried in German soil
This part of Germany belonged to France several times, for example in 17th/early 18th century under Louis XIV. and from 1793-1814. At the time the gravestone was erected, Landau was a French city and an important garrison of the French army.
