This thread is for the redevelopment of a site on the corner of Ullet Road and Lathbury Lane, near to the junction with Smithdown Road, and close to Sefton Park. The site currently houses two detached buildings surrounded by open space. The first building is a Victorian villa, typical of those found around Sefton park. The second building, Lathbury House, was built between 1963-65, as part of the city council's 'Hostels for the Elderly' programme. It continued to be used as such for several decades, until 1996 when planning was granted for it to be converted to student flats, although it's uncertain if that plan ever came to pass. In 2007, two planning applications were submitted. One was for permission to demolish Lathbury House, the other to replace it with a 3-4 storey block of apartments, and convert the adjacent Croxteth Lodge into additional residential. The application to demolish Lathbury House was approved although never implemented, while the residential application was withdrawn.

The new plans call for the Victorian villa to be converted into a children's day nursery for 100 children. Meanwhile Lathbury House would be demolished and be replaced by a four storey residential block, comprising 35 apartments. The developers is Your Exclusive Developments Ltd and the architect is Howard and Seddon Architects.

Progress
- As of early March 2018, a wooden hoarding line had been erected within the site, surrounding Lathbury House, with Mee's Demolition signs all over it, suggesting someone wants to get going on this one, despite the fact it'll be a few months before planning might be secured.

The lodge is the building behind the flat, which is the one I'm assuming you went to parties at. It used to be lived in by hippy/student types but to be fair they put on a good party, went there for a few new years. The old people's homes are separate.

My arl flat on Greenbank overlooked this site. Strangely, I liked the ugly block. Has some character, unlike the proposed replacement.

Given a bit of a scrub and mod cons, it'd be alright.

Demolition has begun on Lathbury House (Ullet Road) The staircase is really unusual and attractive (IMO) I always look at it when i'm passing,

I was listening to Spotify a few years ago and an Album popped up which featured the very same staircase on the cover , i was surprised to say the least, i cant for the life of me remember what the album / band were called

Lathbury House has met the wrecking ball. Well, most of it -

This is a Citipads development. So far they've demolished the old lighting shop on St. Anne Street and delivered a rubble strewn wasteland, and have demolished the industrial units on New Bird Street and delivered a surface car park. Therefore until there is tangible evidence of construction, I'm not going to move this one over.

It's no loss
Ugly brutalist 1960s concrete monstrosity
Only interesting feature was the staircase
Since it has been left standing I wonder if they are planning to incorporate it into the new building somehow ?

This site has been dormant for a couple of years, since the demolition guys cleared the 60s dross to leave the old mansion standing in its original meadow. Then the other night, the Martians landed and there was lights, noise, cranes and activity for over 24 hours continuously. I couldn’t see what was going on behind the fence, but there were containers and a good deal of mobile equipment on site. I passed this morning, and it appears the invaders have returned to their red planet.
