Since construction activity on Latvian roads is picking up, I have decided to open up a thread for road projects in Latvia. Lately the Latvian project & infrastructure thread has been getting too much road project updates, and the other non-highway posts are lost in previous pages.

On this post you will be able to find complete list of U/C, soon-to-be-started and proposed road, highway and expressway projects in Latvia.

Others are welcome to contribute on this thread - pictures, videos, news articles and construction information.

Looks very nice! I can see doing this stretch of road at 150kph in my government limousine ... oh, except that I don't have a driver ... or a limousine for that matter... still the pictures and finished product are a joy to look at! Thanks.

This elevated area which is made of stones seems quite low. Have you noticed drivers taking shortcuts over those inner areas on ring roads?
The stone part is there for longer vehicles - trucks, limousines. Sometimes the paved area of a roundabout is too narrow. In reality the roundbaout looks something like this.

Yeah, I know, but it should be used only if necessary (i.e trucks, buses, like you said). If it's not elevated (= inconvenient) enough, cars tend to take shortcuts by going straight without slowing down. At least in Estonia this happens, because those stony areas are often almost at the same level with the road itself (bad practice: roundabout in Viljandi). In our case it's probably because maintenance companies hate any obstacles when they clean those roundabouts from snow.

Kur jūs to informāciju ņemat?

This money will be spent on gravel or asphalt roads?
This february only 16.9% and only of secondary roads were gravel, so I guess it's safe to assume that the vast majority will be spent on asphalt roads, especially bearing in mind that gravel roads don't require expensive maintenance.

360M € is a lot!
It's not if you consider our corruption (okay, that's a bad joke, but then again there's a part of a joke in every joke, our roads aren't generally and averagely the worst in Baltics for no reason...) - it's not if you consider their current state:

Colors are self-explanatory. Yellow is bearable, yet could use an improvement. Red is bad, very bad. This could give you some idea how bad is our "bad":
