I had a work trip to Switzerland last week. Unfortunately not much time for sight-seeing, least extending the trip due to expenses. Switzerland is very expensive. A main course in a restaurant in Lausanne, fronting Lake Geneva is around CHF60, excluding taxes, drinks, an appetiser... No wonder so many Ferraris zooming past.

I had the priviledge to spend two nights at Beau-Rivage Palace. The room was nothing to shout about. However, it was worth to note that the fruits served in the room were cherries. Plenty of those at the morning buffet as well.

This is unquestionably the most opulent hotel I stayed in. The galleries and the ballrooms are on a different level. Restaurant patrons were very well dressed, fitting for such a setting.

The kids and family room on the ground floor.

The exterior is magnificent too. Consists of two buildings, the hotel has a spacious courtyard that overlooks Lake Geneva on one side and a "garden" view on the other. A long driveway leads to the hotel's entrance.

Visual merchandising is ubiquitous at the hotel, especially watches and jewellery. All bonafide high-end brands, like Blancpain, Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe, that seem to mock anyone who dares to wear an affordable luxury watch, like Oris, Frederique Constant.

The first day of arrival was a sunny day in the summer. I actually got two-toned arms from some walking about. People took full advantage of Sunday and sunshine by immersing in a whole range of activities, from paddling in the lake to tanning on the shore. It was great to still see snowy mountains in the distance.

The tall building you see on the extreme right side is located in Montreux.

French-Italian-Swiss borders, I think.

Across the road is Hotel Aulac, which is one of the cheapest hotels in the area. Still one can get a decent five-star stay in Kuala Lumpur for about the same price.

A number of alfresco eateries occupy this area and front Lake Geneva. Fantastic views matched by pricey menus. The downside is probably these restaurants offer similar menus, likely due to seasonal produce. They close about 10pm and even then, they are still well patronised.

A couple of pre-loved luxury boutiques are also set here, selling mostly bags for ladies.

I went to the Jura Mountains and Vallee de Joux for a day trip. If you like driving, you will love the winding roads on the way up and down, passing through farm lands, small town centres and Lac de Joux. It's about an hour away from Lausanne.

Photos are from Chalet Bastian in Le Chenit, which is available for rental from May to October as snowfalls close the single lane road leading to the chalet.

Surrouded by a pine forest, to melodies of cowbells, the sight of wildflowers and a fireplace... The weather was cool due to rain.

I will skip Basel for now since the photos are mainly artwork. Since Zurich has a number of waterways, I will start with Lake Zurich. Not as many towering mountains surrounding the lake compared to Lausanne, however, there are many more intesresting buildings.

I stayed at Park Hyatt, which the area was a little quiet. But a block away to the lake, it was bustling. It helped that it was a sunny day so a lot of tourists and locals were out for some sun.
