Lebanon, PA

I was in the Scranton, PA area about three weeks ago, and on my way home I decided to stop by and check out the small city of Lebanon. I had driven through once before, but that was at night, and I really didn't see much. So I did a quick walk around the downtown area, and a couple of short drive-bys of some residential blocks.

Some info:
Lebanon pop ~ 24,000
Lebanon county pop ~ 125,000
Area first settled in 1740
City incorporated in 1885
About 4.2 sq miles (roughly 5,800 folks per sq mile)

As it was a spur of the moment stop, I really didn't get a chance to figure out what to see, and just stumbled on some of the stuff in the pics. It's a blue collar town, and had quite an urban feel. There are some great old buildings in this town, but quite a few empty storefronts. Looked like someone is getting some rehab done too.

man talk about some great old architecture.

appears very dense as well. now i'm curious what the population was at its peak.
main street looks cool. nice little city. kinda reminds me of syracuse.
I live in this town; Lebanon. It's a shame you were there on a Sunday, it's a very conservative, church going place which is why it was dead. Everyone goes to church and then to grandmas for Sunday dinner. That's how it is.

For your information, the boarded up residential houses were purchased by the city. On the two major roads through the city (9th & 10th st) they are building overpasses over the railroad tracks.

If you ever get back during the summer stop by a little area of Lebanon called Mount Gretna. It's great fun. It's a bunch of old cottages in the forest with some fun programs, a lake, and a great ice cream place.
