Had to give my own hometown a 6, no more. Although there is some nice midrise next to the two towers (hmmm, Tolkien?), it is too much spread out to really make an impressive skyline, as seen from the west:

Business centre by night (from left to right - 3 buildings from ING/Postbank with the tax office
behind it, Achmea-Avéro Insurance Company, Bonnema Office Tower):

More ING/Postbank:

Residential tower next to the southern main city entrance bridge:

Same tower, from the hospital helipad, with 3 12-story apartment buildings on the other side of the bridge

And Vitens drinking water company:

Some apartment buildings in the north of town:

And finally the Oldehove, an early 16th century church tower, leaning over to one side

all photo's found on the internet :)

Just a few more photo's from the net:

Best view of our modest skyline, from the Stephenson Bridge (south-west)

Research lab and office buidling from Friesland Foods (dairy products, east side of town):

Same as first, with in the back (far right) the Friesland Foods building)

Terp, Eeburg and Annie Westland-flat (to be demolished), along the river Ee

Eeburg with the Terp in front

In the back, former water tower (now residential) and 5 12-floor apartment buildings at the east entrance road

again the former water tower and 3 apartment buildings behind

Bilgaard (8 12-floor apartment buildings), Dammelaan (north ring road)

Europaplein (Europe Square), a roundabout with 5 9-floor apartment buildings and the Europe Hotel encircling it, to the right
in the back is the airforce base, Leeuwardens highrise enemy no 1

The old town center with in the back (left) the 52 meter Zuiderplantage residential tower and to the right the dome of the Friesland Bank

Great panoramic view from the Stephenson bridge:

(from l > r: Vitens Fryslân - Nieuwlandstate - some small buildings - NHL (college, behind first church tower) - Oldehove (16th century church tower) - UWV (social security office) - ING/Postbank - Avéro Tower - Achmea Tower - Rijkswaterstaat (white office building in front of towers) - Friesland Foods (waaaaay in back, middle of the railroad tracks)

More up to date photo of the left part of the previous one, construction of the 50m WTC behind Vitens:

Leeuwarden, a nice city.

8/10. This is the city I live in. Som more highrise-pics from my own archive:

01. Achmea/Avero as seen from the Westerkade:

02. Twins, look-a-likes?:

03. Autum 2008-shadow`s falling at the Schoolstreet:

04. Often forgotten in the Leeuwarden skyline: The battery with huge silos at Royal Koopmans Meelfabrieken:

05. Finally, a model of the Achmea tower, 114,5 m. :

Thanx for sharing! :)

In my opinion one of the best skylines in the Netherlands! It is not just the number of the buildings that count, but the way the buildings create a recognizable skyline. Even a few buildings can do that. No other city in the Netherlands has such an iconic skyline as Leeuwarden, the few buildings define the skyline in an unique way.

Beat this!
