What an incredibly inefficient and poor use of a central site that is, the area dedicated to surface parking is bigger than the building itself.

And again it seems a driveway is prioritised over a straight footpath.

Yeah what a waste. Such a great site backing up to the bush clad hill and cliff behind and Mt Eden right there. Could have been a sweet spot for a cluster of apartment buildings with gardens etc between. Bummer

Indeed, and instead of a site generating rates and income for the council, we have a traffic inducing leech that doesn't contribute a cent to supporting the infrastructure it is now using and wasting.

What's more, we're likely paying for it. From memory, finding them a new home was part of the requirement for CRL taking their current site in Mt Eden.
If the church spent as much money in its' buildings as it did helping those in need, we'd have a much better place. All churches should not have grassy lawns but rows of fruit and vege patches.

:bash: Although for what we are getting, as in CRL, this is an excusable trade off. Just a shame its that particular site, and (apologies if I offend anyone) its a church.

I like that idea. If they all had functioning community gardens producing cheap/ free produce for the community that would be great.

Well it's even worse that this is a site that council purchased for them considering its use, they could have given them a noisy site next to a motorway, a quiet spot next to trees and greenery should have been used for housing not parking and a big box.

^^ Very true. I wonder what the process was in terms of price and availability. Maybe this was it? Either way, bummer!
I absolutely cannot stand the waste that I see in these mass brainwashing churches. What's wrong with people? It's 2018 for goodness sake.

Sure, everyone is entitled to their beliefs (and I have mine) but throwing money at some slick talking preacher who is dressed like a used car salesman so that they can live exotic lifestyles at the expense of the people they are supposed to help is, to me, abhorrent and patently evil.

I don't think the Unitary Plan should allow for any churches/cult facilities to be constructed - this is an incredible waste of a fantastic site.

I am a Christian, and I agree with most of what is being said here. These organisations (I refuse to call them churches, because they are not) have nothing in common with Christianity, and hide behind the guise of a church for their own self-interest.
I would never step foot in such an abomination, and anyone who supports these "wolves in sheep's clothing" is just supporting everything Christianity opposes.

One suggestion that I don't agree with is that a church should be a charitable organisation. This is not what a church is all about, and should be left to the quasi religious organisations such as the Salvation army.

Agreed. And please tax them accordingly.

Yes I most certainly don't have a problem with Christianity per-se and my post was not intended as a criticism of that or any other religious beliefs. But these places are just money-making schemes that prey on the gullible. Very sad.

Sanitarium is owned by the 7th Day Adventist and operates tax free as a result, the church in Parnell is one of the largest land holders in the area and has a large business renting properties out, none of which it has to pay any tax on. The whole tax free exemption for churches is just a rort of the tax system.

Wow! Hard to believe that they're building this in Mt Eden in 2018.
