It is not reallly the "centre"; the real "downtown" with shops and street life is more on the right. Anyway, the business district Euralille will still densify in the next coming years, with some towers and midrises being built.
Note that you can see the two train stations on this photo: the one just beneath the towers exclusively for international and long-distance national traffic, and the bigger one (second biggest in France for traffic, excluding Paris) more on the right.
