Olando cap landscape reservation, which is in the Seaside regional park takes the area of about 123 ha. The Baltic Sea scarp and its surroundings are preserved here. When the glacier was retreating 12-15 thousand years ago it formed the till back. The highest peak of it is called Olando cap hill. This is a parabolic dune 24.4 m above the sea level which was formed on the till back.

The hill of Olando cap is destroyed constantly by the waves and goes down the steep of 20-22 m. There is no other precipitous coast in Lithuania like this one. When being destroyed Olando cap scarp feeds the beaches of Palanga and Giruliai with sand.

The hill of Olando cap has been overgrown by forest of pines and oaks since old times. They used to make a big contrast to the plain of sand around it That’s why the hill was a guide for seamen and fishers. In 1818 cautionary signs for ships were built on the scarp and the hill itself was marked in the charts.

Old Litorina Sea coast side goes to the south and to the north from Olando cap which was formed by the waves 5-7 thousand years ago. Comparative high of this old site (from the sea bench down to till back up) is 8-21 m. Deep springy ravines have been formed here with torrential streams. In the end of 19th century when Giruliai seaside was planted a park for walks of Klaipeda people was made here, there were planted oaks, beeches, sycamore maples, other decorative trees. Observations with the summerhouse are equipped on the top of the side.
