IDEAS PROPSALS LIVERPOOL BACK AT NO1

Just decided to start a new thread. This hopefully will get the feedback i want for on here about Liverpool, and the develpoment going in to this massive city sprawling across the coast!

Liverpool has the quality of New York City, was the sister city in the early 1900's for trade and shipping! So there are a series of questions that i want to arsie and discuss about this city and its future.

The City Centre, One of the Biggest in the Country, and is spreading outwards. Liverpool city centre is probably 3rd or 4th biggest, (THATS THE CITY CENTRE) Not the city as a whole, its design was to face the sea and impress, whilst other citys were simply to store goods! So what is and can be done to progress the city outwards. North Dock land can have mass building within reason and the new LFC stadium! Also more towers and greenery! This view when complete will be magnificent from New Brighton and Llandudno!

The suburbs, no matter what Liverpool will have to have trams soon. If we push the boundaries of the city then we will hit well over 1 or 2 million. Like Greater Manchester who is really eager to swallow up Warrington, also with the police force as well. Warringtonians want there own city of Warrington, will this happen? If not the citys of Liverpool and Manchester will surely grab it? We need the trams asap. From Speke and airport to city, Maghull, and even St Helens and warrington. They'll come eventually, the process is slow, manchester has therenew trams system in place to be built again. That is why our Government cash ws to be fought over by cumbria liverpool and manchester. So being the first city in the world to have them, im sure they'll arrive after 2010.

CRUISELINER WATERFRONT AREA

Cruiseliner facility, in place and due to start, this will be fantastic, and will bring maratime images back here, the Mersey flooded with ships. his is already happening and will continue to happen. Itll be great, the expansion of skyline will vastly improve the visitors and population

OUR SKYSCRAPERSOUR SKYSCRAPERS

Now Liverpool, world famous for nearly everything from music to sport to the people, is having around 20 building proposed or approved over 20 floors. the following are fantastic and when complete will change Liverpool forever

BEETHAM WEST TOWER
BEETHAM TOWER
UNITY TOWER
ALEXANDER TOWER
CENTRAL STATION..
BRUNSWICK TOWER
sal)GREENBURGS TOWER
PSDA TOWERS
THE EDGE TOWER PSDA
BALTIC TRIANGLE TOWERS...Buildings over 20 floors
LIME STREET GATEWAY TOWER
GRAND CENTRAL TOWER
CITY LOFTS TOWER
KING EDWARD TOWER
ST PUALS SQUARE VISIONARY TOWER... massive well over 600ft
ST JOHNS IDEA THREAD ON TOWERS BY HOILDAY INN
WIRRAL SKYSCRAPER DESIGNS

And more every week pop up for ideas!

This city needs them, to be world player in big citys, we were the king of the waters only 100 years ago. And we were built to meet the standards of world cities. Like other UK citys we hit it hard in the 1970's 80's... And we need to get back up.

Another subject is the city region. Merseyside or Greater Liverpool, the people i meet at University and throughout love the city the people and the nightlife. So greater Liverpool would be a better title, the city centralising everything with councils split and ran from the city. With own powers and decisions.

OVERHEAD RAILWAYOVERHEAD RAILWAY

Bring it back, right from Southport to Liverpool JL Airport with stations at every town. High speed train with comfy surroundings.

SOUTHPORT
AINSDALE
FRESHFIELDS
CROSBY
SEAFORTH LITHERLAND... New Dockland oppertunities
BOOTLE
KIRKDALE
SANDHILLS
CITY NORTH (BEETHAM TOWER WEST STOP)
CITY CENTRAL (PSDA AND BALTIC TRIANGLE AREA-HOTELS TOO)
CITY SOUTH (BRUNSWICK TOWER OR AREA, GARDEN FESTIVAL STOP)
CRESSINGTON
GARSTON DOCKLANDS
SPEKE AIRPORT MARRIOTT HOTEL AREA
LIVERPOOL JLA T1 STOP
LIVERPOOL JLA T2 STOP - when built or proposed

It would be fantastic, underground cleaned up, the trains have, now do the staions, with a possible new underground staion by cathederals for the heavily populated student are leading out toward the far east of city.

BBC AND ITV, C4 MEDIA STOP
BBC AND ITV, C4 MEDIA STOP[/
B]

Channel 4 is already in Liverpool, as well as BBC RADIO and Granada! But we should and will have TV STAIONS here. Live from the top of Beetham West Tower or Central station Tower. Broadcasting NW tonight and sharing the nightly bulletins with MANCHESTER. Having both in Manchester is stupid especially when there is a bigger city down the road.

MASSIVE SHOPPING STORESMASSIVE SHOPPING STORES

OK we have big names here anyway, and Liverpool is nown for its spot on fashion, especially the girls. Macys, selfridges and Bloomigdales, levis and others are already here or are rumoured to be here, Pri Mark is too, but Pri Mark could be a fashion disaster.
The massive stores like Harvey Nichols are always empty in Manchester with staff stood round. Do we want that here? The name good, the shop not that good? Our fashion regardless is spot on!

NIGHTLIFE

Cant be Beaten, people from all over UK know this. Its top and satys there every year. More clubs, pubs, bars, restaurants, you name it Liverpool has it, as well as Cream and Garlands catering for all. Any ideas on new ones?

LIVERPOOL JOHN LENNON AIRPORTLIVERPOOL JOHN LENNON AIRPORT

A second Termianl rumoured plans. A dock stage for shipping by airport runway. Flights to USA and world wide. WE go all over Europe, so thats graet were in the top Airports in UK, better city links. And on a limb a Train shuttle to Manchester Airport, share the passengers between both, we could fucken be the entrance to Britain! If we have three terminals, Manchester 4, thats a 7 terminal 30 mile long connected airport, an idead, but you know good. Bus access more, and more city links. 700 BUS MANC LPOOL LINK.. BRILLIANT IDEA £5 28 DAY RETURN. 500 Good as well.

MOTORWAYS M62 LIVERPOOL ENTRANCE

Liverpool needs a bridge running from Dale street across to the wirral, passing the city would be amazing and tear jerking lol. It would be spot on. Runcorn has a 2nd proposed bridge, we need a city one as well as tunnels. Train access as well, and tram. Also the motorways entrance with the letter L about 10 meters high at end of motorway lite up welcomin the people to the city. M62 will close up in 100 years into a massive city. Its a corridor of development.

HERITAGE THREATS

Ok this one, as long as the towers and development dont intude, block out or threaten the EH sites then they shoud go ahead. with the new clusters shooting up, there should be an L.A cluster, adjent to the city and Liver Buildings. The city can be buetiful as it is now. a massive business area, exchange, trade centres, offices, head offices like Beetham! sprawling north from Beetham west, and west from the towers along the coast.

NAVY ARMY MI5

Situated in the city and coast for port and docking! We have the biggest docklands in UK, they should be used for this purpose. The MI5 were rumoured to be moving up here as an office outside London. And the English Parliamentary. what will this bring? A threat? or?

CITY ROAD OPENINGS/ APPEARENCE

Roads in the city made wider, and more access available to and from the main areas of business and shoppins. 051 building to be in glass with opening nightclub roof, with lasers shootin out. all hotels having red carpet entrance. Lewis's to be cental home ground store. cleaning up of buildings in that area facing X IN CITY, we've all been in there! Glass and steel appearence and selfridges to be there as well as armani, glass bridge located from Lime street to the shops. Hanover street is being deveoped, as well as Renshaw street with the Stanley Casino. it would look on top, because its the entrance to city, were the old ABC cinema was, should be a massive department store or building. Macys would look top there.

UNIVERSITYS AND THERE GROWTH

We have 5 universitys

LIVERPOOL UNIVERSITY one of Britains biggets and best
LIVERPOOL JOHN MOORES UNIVERSITY
LIVERPOOL HOPE UNIVERSITY
LIVERPOOL LIPA
EDGE LANE

Need to catagorise and do up Wavertree into something great. Take a leaf from manchesters book, Fallofield, rusholme, oxfrd road, absolutley fantastic for students, cant be beaten. Liverpool has more students and is a top destination for students. It needs improving outside city in Wavertree, and outside city areas. The city for students aint a problem.

PROMOTIONAL VIDEO FOR CITY FOR TV STAIONS FOR 08

An idea i will do at my university that will consist of Liverpool, 2008 and the city the city in a video with music in background showing the city off BIG TIME. Its a fantastic idea. And as a UNI project thats what i will do. The idea alongside others was heavily approved by students in Manchester and Liverpool and by TV staions. Obviously no word on when to do it. But want to do it. It would be graet for tourism and showing that LIVERPOOL is the place to be, a mass city, a lively city and what were amde of, shots of towers the city busy areas, people, nightlife, heritage, all of it, in a video, the idea i had would be opening with a camera running across the mersy into city then opening the city up with shots of everything night and day. With Coldplay "The Speed of Sound Playing" The idea would be great for the city, showing it off to its full potentiol for all including students. really up for doing it, had the idea for a while, wouldnt cost a bean as well. All done on stills and from air.

2ND NATIONAL STATION

Another station by waterfront accesing to North Wales and beyong, entrance view accross Mersy would be great. A name like Liverpool Waters or Liverpool Mersey Station. We could have the tilt London trains coming through to it. Possiblly European Train Links. liverpool is more or less Central west england, it would be ideal.

PLEASE ENTER YOUR IDEAS AND THOUGHTS TO THIS. IF IT WAS TO HAPPEN, LIVERPOOL WOULD GO THAT FORWARD THE EH WOULD SEE DUST. NOT OF THE HERITAGE BUILDINGS LOL. SO THIS IS WHAT I TYHINK AS A NEW THREAD, WHAT ABOUT YOU LOT.

If any attempted trolling occurs it would be advisable to ignore it.. better still ignore responding but get the perpetrator barred, as this seems to be the new MO.

Nice thread, some wacky ideas. What the 21CL should look to do is explore the potential that lies behind these aspirations with regards to seeing them ralised. Could be tied in with the othe similar thread running now.

I would say that the development of a media industry and not just one or two local stations is the aspiration, most of the participants doing stuff totally unconnected with the city.

If agreeing with the statement that Liverpool is back on top of the world then I should have voted no. Liverpool's jurney has only just begun. walking round a few of the estates in Huyton today reminds me that there are still many, many problems to address. Economically we are still not even on the blocks, never mind sprinting to the winning line!

There are huge structural problems to overcome... but lots of things are building that could help.

I agree with Pobbie, "going places". All nice ideas also - you've made a real effort to bring all those ideas and developments in one post, it looks good.

The one thing I would add is this. It's not about size or numbers, its about quality. It doesn't matter that Liverpool region has fewer people than London or Birmingham, or more than Bristol or Newcastle, what counts is creating a happy, prosperous city that everyone wants to have something to do with. If we get that right, growth and re-population will follow.

Manchester, Manchester, Manchester. That's all you seem to talk about on this forum.

This thread is troll material from post # 1. :lock:
Eh? You were the first to mention that town after post 1! Honestly sleepy, have you just woken up? Post 1 is not very accurate about some things, I admit, but the general thrust is right, it's one of progress and urban development. Don't be so bloody paranoid.

Spot on poli
This is the main point about stating that liverpool should be seen as a great world city.. or one of the greatest cities in the world.. or even the greatest city in the world.

That would not mean a stock exchange bigger than NYC or a population bigger than mexico city or more financial houses than London or a more lavish undergrgound than Moscow. rather it would be seen as by combining a series of quality measures on poverty, enterprise, service delivery, sustainable infrastructure, how it engages with the world, the tolerence of the culture as well as its dynamism etc that would give an overall impression.

vancouver leads all thsse worlds best polls over the last 5 years or so and vancouver is hardly the 'classic' global or world city. Liverpool should take a comprehensive look at what it can do to rightly take this title from Vancouver.

Yeah, it's blatantly asking for trouble. As soon as Miles Platting and co spot it, there'll be 30 pages of threats, abuse and exaggerations.

Hope you're right in places, though. Some great ideas.

Whats up now?

For **** sake
Some people will try to disrupt a thread if you say that you think Liverpool should start doing things for itself that other places (eg London or Manchester) curently do for it.

You want Liverpool to do things for itself and the surrounding areas - for expmle you talk about making television programmes, having better shops, providing a better range of flights from the airport. None of those things are a crime for a city to want to provide, Liverpool should want to do better for itself and its people.

Unfortunately, because the world is competitive, when you say these things, some people feel threatened. "If you run more flights at your airport, your people won't use mine so much", or "if you start making tv programmes, maybe they will make less TV in my city and we will have less jobs making tv programmes". It's pretty basic really. It's competition. It's normal, it's natural, and it's healthy.

Your thread is fine in my opinion. Your poll is going well. If people from other cities come to bash us, we can ask the Moderator to deal with them.

Main thing is to stay nice and calm, some people would like you to react angrily and get upset. If you stay nice and calm, and ignore them, then your thread will be fine. It's a good thread, a good poll, don't let people who compete with us spoil it. :)

Excellent post at #1 there AMC. You should get in touch with Sebo as all the things you mention are the remit of 21CL and the society will need positive input from everyone interested in the furture of Liverpool.

I haven't voted as I'm not sure what the vote is for... I don't think there is a race to swallow up Warrington (by anyone), so its probably wise not to mention names of other cities as potential threats as this is sure to attract a defence mechanism.... especially not.... er, you know, damn it I, I, feel... I whats happening, my programing is being altered... what is.... mmmmmmummy!

In the latter part of the nineteenth and the early part of the twentieth ceturies New York ships traded with Liverpool, Liverpool ships traded with the world.
