Liverpool: Consistent Low Crime City

Seems Liverpool does well in these alternative reports as well the official statistics.

Manchester is rated highest for robbery/thieving.
Nottingham is highest for murder.
Bradford highest for gun crime.

Read here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5008520.stm

The issue is discussed by readers on the BBC website. One person made a comment about Liverpool but was then ridiculed almost universally.

I think the old stereotypes are practically dead, save from the odd thick in-bred type. This report is further good news for the city!

but it has to figure quite high up the league for car crime (judging by how many times a year mine gets broken into/vandalised! :bash: ). but then again as i am in bootle, i dont suppose that would be included within the statistics (luckily for Liverpool!)
I cant believe Nottinham, that place looks like its in a real mess.... andits good to see Liverpool dispelling some age old myths.

At one stage police were walking around armed in parts of Nottingham. The rest of the police forces laughed at them because they failed in basic police work. The Nottingham police is crap which doesn't make matters better for the city.
they top nearly every list ... funny though i bet if you asked the average joe in the street they would still fancy their chances more in nottingham than in liverpool
Isn't it usual for armed police to wander around inner city neighbourhoods following a bout of fatal shootings? Certainly not exclusive to Nottingham. You might perhaps get your car nicked or labbats ice spilled down your stag do jersey but it really isn't the mean streets of Brazil.

In the mid-90s gangland wars police with automatic weapons walked around Toxteth streets. This was more to give a warm feeling to the general public rather than combat any gangland gun crime. The shootings were gang related and never involved the public. They were not open street shoot outs, as per Chicago, were the public could get caught up.

In parts of Nottingham there was no gang shootouts and police were armed. They just failed in normal police work to get the criminals.

Certainly not exclusive to Nottingham. You might perhaps get your car nicked or labbats ice spilled down your stag do jersey but it really isn't the mean streets of Brazil.
But it is not the streets of 1950-60 Britain, that is for sure.

There's still plenty of scrotes around who still think jokes about hub caps are funny. I had a look on the Lonely Planet message boards and I couldn't believe how many little Tarquins were giving it the "Just be prepared to lose your hub caps and watch your wallet" stuff, and lots of other forums seem to populated by these brainless people.

Perceptions are definately changing though and this sort of thing can only help. I just wonder why the Echo and Post haven't made a big deal out of this? A great chance for publicity but they'd rather run complete non-news stories like this (Which is frankly, embarressing!) than champion their own city's real achievements. Had Liverpool been top they'd have reported, so why not report another positive for the city?
Yes, the dumb ass posters on those Lonely Planet forums probably consist of the likes of Metro, EB and co and other scum from our 'good neighbours.' I see absolutely no reason why people visiting from abroad would make comments like that, especially as, statistically, they'd be less likely to be the victims of crime. It's probably mill town jug heads from Manc and Lancashire. Vermin.

Mancs are smarting from the fact that their rose-tinted, 3rd Reich style fantasies are being punctured, consistently, by various reports showing them to have the highest rates of robbery and thieving in the UK, and most probably Europe. Nottingham can't get over having high crime in every category, especially violent crime. Rather than whinge about it, why don't these **** wits just start sorting the problems out?? It isn't just this report that showed these places to have bad crime, the official statistics say so as well. Manc is always highest for robbery.
It doesn't matter how many public sector jobs go there, or cubey buildings they construct, there's just something about the Mancs that make them want to steal things.

As for the Echo- it is toilet paper, owned and run by outsiders, and aimed at people with only half a brain and just gasping to read stories headed "I could tell from Michael's eyes that he is innocent", and other nonsense involving Coronation St. I have no idea why they wouldn't make a bif deal out those crime stats.

My in-law from Surrey came up for the Matthew St festival and parked his car in Nelson St. It was broeken into by grabbing hold of the top of the doors and bending it right down - a big job to put right and he was without the use of the car. Valuables and a mobile phone were taken. 5 cars were done in broad daylight, the other 4 had Belgium and Dutch plates. It was embarrassing to say the least.

The latest figures are very encouraging, but there is still a long way to go. Better policing, community involvement, education in civic pride and zero tolerance is the way.
Yes John,

But you see, my point was a general one based on quantitative evidence. All you have done is described one isolated and anecdotal incident which doesn't really add anything to the debate. We already knew robberies take place in Liverpool, as they do everywhere else. Official statistics, and alternative reports, demonstrate that the crime rate is lower in Liverpool than other metroplitan areas, especially Manchester. I don't know why you bothered to post that at all to be honest.

I also find your story slightly doubtful and exaggerated.

Think I'll put you back on ignore now.

If I fully agree with this will it then be turned within 20 posts into the FACT that I think all criminals should be equipped with the tools they need by the state and given police protection should any 'citizen fascists' try to stop them?

Good post John

In other words you call me a liar. I call you an idiotic arsehole, who is indirectly condoning this sort of behaviour.

YES YOU ARE A LIAR, IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE. YOU ARE A TROLL (ie. another user) WHO IS PUTTING ON A VERY TIRESOME AND FAKE PERSONA.

THIS IS TIRESOME IN THE EXTREME. CAN SOME MOD PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS GUY'S DETAILS AND BAN HIM. IT IS BLATANTLY A TROLL.

If this one had proper civic lessons at school he will not be this way.
Out of curiosity. What happened to that Liverpool8 guy who mysteriosly morphed through several personas, going from dumb ass scally to pseudo intellectual, and then disappearing????

There's too much fucking bull shit going on around here and it's starting to get on my nerves. It's not even like it is possible to have conversations with 'real' people half the time.

I dont see whats so false or offensive about this post!

Nothing is more irritating than people doubting real life occurences- I was once held at knifepoint in Hulme with two others by 3 black guys in a third party flat they had broken into looking for drugs- we were concerned neighbours who walked into a load of crap! broke ankles jumping from window to escape. I have had snotty lefty student types tell me "that cant be true" and felt like killing them. Reality dosent always fit into peoples preferred perception of areas / people

I don't believe you :)

I couldn't agree more about your point, but I have my reasons in this instance so please forgive for coming across like a "snotty lefty student" (-looks like you're presumptious too!)
