Was home from University the other day and seen what was Liverpool getting back up of the floor from the kick in the ass from the past few decades. When i first got to Manchester Univeristy i thought Manchester, Leeds, and others were bigger, i was mistaken. I was looking at pictures of this MASSIVE city from the air and was amazed to see it sheer size. The city is clearing its lungs for a mass takeover and regeneratino that most Liverpudlians cant see.

The Docks were the most amazing, cranes from miles beyond, and towers belting up into the sky. The Arena taking its shape, and the towers next to it sadly blocking out Leo Casino's fabulous views... The city is a mass building site, the visions are amazing. I believe to appreciate Liverpool if born there, you must go outside it to see inside it and to be amazed. All over the city, the cranes and develompment fly up.

The Airport and new bus services shooting about. STAGECOACH rushed into Liverpool with old buses until the new LIVERPOOL ones arrive. Its so amazing and gives you a sence of proudness to see whats happening to our city. Which to be honest is the reason why there have been a lot of Bitch digs. Not saying from were, im sure you all know though!

This thread was basically me saying how its growing. From the city and beyond its borders. I went into the city stopped and went (What the f*"@) it was incredible. Does anyone know how Brunswick is getting on lately? Has the samll business shops given notice to quit?

Unity is standing proud, Beetham West is on its 4/5th floor. Through out that area the noise of machines, trucks, its like a vision of the BBC when Greece was building up for the Olympics.

The new BBC Station is up. Herberts of Liverpool.. Whatsd that all about, Gold Blocks standing outwards. The nightlife was incredible, and it cannot be beaten, smoke and what i believe was steam rolling from the streets around concert square. Every girl dressed like a supermodel, every lad, smart and on form. Cars everywere, Limosines and helicopters everywere. Every bar was booming. The city was lite up like we were expecting the queen for her 80th.. It was fantastic to come back and see our world city belting up...

Conformation that massive stores are coming as well. Unfortunatley Harvey Nichols wont be coming to Liverpool. They have settled with a store in Manchester, which is only 30 miles down road. selfridges, Levi, Armani exchange, pri-mark, you name it its here or coming!

Recently spoke to arcitects and Liverpool is HOT HOT HOT for Sky Scraper development. Some arent even on here. There are lots each month being drawn up. They want to expand the skyline toward Stanley Dock! Liverpool and Manchester are seriously going to take over the rest of the country in city staus and size.. Coming into Manchester. Deans gate Tower sat proud at the end of the M62. And in Liverpool our buildings, and towers facing the ocean.

I don't like the new revised plans for Central Station. I think its unreal, the origonal tower was fantastic. But the new one still tall and still ok. The thing is that because we got given World City Status, to some its a ball and chain for development. But we should be proud for that as some citys like L.A or others would bite your hand of for it.

I hope you all liked my origonal poll for Liverpool back on top of the world. That hopefully soon will happen. All this city needs is posativitey and us Liverpudlians to do it. Ousiders havent a clue how the city should look and be, in my opinion. :jk:

Anyway this thread was to show my insparation for Liverpool, its an amazing city that Millions flock to from over the world. The students end up staying in the city after Graduation. The heritage and amazing avenues and city street against the new development is fantastic. Im back in Manchester now, came home to see my mates and was amazed by Liverpool. Im made up and very proud to see it growing.

The next two years will amaze.....the next ten years will astound. :)

Absolutely AMC, I`m quite sure that Liverpool can still `enchant` (and does.....) and that we will show that there is much more, very much more still to come.

There is already a great deal on here AMC, also check out the thread called `INDEX` for additional threads that may not perhaps be updated every day - you will find a weath of information.

Great to hear that you are flying the `Liverpool` flag in` Manchester`.....

Manchester is a nice city (don`t tell them that though....it`ll go to their head) but Liverpool is as you say quite `Magical`..... `just something` to do with that river I think.

It has to do with our people and size. Manchester ahh erm, yes it busy and has graet development, and has a great feeling of "DO WHAT EVER YOU LIKE HERE". In manchester you can be and act like you want. Its cosmoplitan attitude is really spot on and great and for certain areas of life, it has a lot. Bu against Liverpool, most say at my University, it just isnt the same, our city is growing to fast for them. They have a great city. And they'll prosper, but the attitude of were bigger than you and all, and this 2nd city thing, its histerical, and you have to let them have there say and how they feel. Liverpool city is around third biggest in size thats the city, Manchester is 6th, but still a cracking place, with our develoment and skyline, it cant be beaten. Every other UK city does not challenge Liverpool for what it has and does, exept Manchester! Manchester needs to realise LIVERPOOL is bigger and always will be. Manchester was half built from Liverpool, and wouldnt be here if it wasnt for Liverpool. Thats why when telling Mancunians, they flip, becuase for over 200 years we did dwarf them and a lot of desicions for Manchester came from our City. Look back at the charges for docks etc..

But there city is quality, and they need to reaslise that our city is bigger, and both citys have qualities that no other UK or World city will ever match.

Liverpool and Manchester are two brothers that just bicker, both sides of the M62 like eachother, but Football and banter has disabled some relations.

Manchester will always try and rival... There was a thread on there forum about there 3 graces.. LOL i just smirked, becuase it made me laugh and was quite funny. They have an Airport over us and probably will for a while. They have had a lot of money before Liverpool pumped in, and to some they believe that they are superior through that. (Thats Not the Case) (By Far). When challenging there forum, a MANCHESTER BASED MOD brigged me for discussing how great we are and manchester. Take Q from there. Both citys are amazing, both cities dont really need eachother, but will start soon for Airport, Port, and retail, business, Liverpool firms built Beetham Tower in Deansgate and there new EASTGATE.. And Manchester firms are doing Central Station and other development in Liverpool. We both are secretly helping each other out in things.

But the banter will always be there. As for Leeds and it neighbouring citys. Manchester has a real problem i think with Birmingham, becuase that is the real 2nd city, well Liverpool was and will be again. I love both cities and they both will prosper. But as from Liverpool i will always say Liverpool is better, just as a Mancunion would say Manchester is!

We both really watch eachother and learn! From Liverpool fashion to Manchester Transport Systems, we both have things that we are better for. (Liverpool More LOL)..

Liverpool will always be the big brother sitting on the coast watching the other citys bicker. But we all know Liverpool celebrates 800 years soon.. **** ME.. 800.. We'll always be the Big Bro city, and the development will help that.

LIVERPOOL AND MANCHESTER ARE FANTASTIC CITIES THAT ARE WORLD KNOWN AND ALWAYS WILL BE. QUALITIES THAT WILL NEVER BE MATCHED. FOOTBALL WORLD TEAMS. MUSIC CULTURE. BANDS. AND HERITAGE FOR BUILDING UP WHAT IS BRITAIN TODAY!

SETTLED WERE BOTH GREAT..

no doubt there will soon be some troll coming on claiming another little hint of aspiration for Liverpool is subliminal city bashing?

Liverpool is actually bigger than Manchester. Liverpool is gaining in population while Manchester is still losing people. Manchester is NOT the second city and will be nowhere near it - they appear to believe their own propaganda. I find it laughable that they think this. They have aspirations, and it looked like Manchester was going to take off because of the developments there, as others were doing little. But Liverpool’s developments have caught up in a matter of a year or so, and still masses to do with the dock complex.

and you have to let them have there say and how they feel. Liverpool city is around third biggest in size that’s the city, Manchester is 6th,
Manchester is 9th

City populations

1 London - 7,172,091
2 Birmingham - 970,892
3 Glasgow - 629,501
4 Liverpool - 469,017
5 Leeds - 443,247
6 Sheffield - 439,866
7 Edinburgh - 430,082
8 Bristol - 420,556
9 Manchester - 394,269
10 Leicester - 330,574

Mancunians constantly say the Ship Canal was built to circumnavigate Liverpool because Liverpool was ripping them off. Not true. Port charges were not heavy it was the railway companies that ripped Manchester off. Liverpool has always had spare capacity, so open to negotiation. So they built this expensive white elephant of a canal to take ocean going ships 46 miles inland.

But there city is quality, and they need to reaslise that our city is bigger, and both citys have qualities that no other UK or World city will ever match.
I don’t rate Manchester, as I have been to most top class cities in the world. Manchester is not even in the running. The Olympic bids actually included Liverpool, and realistically were the North West games. If Liverpool was the prime city then the chance of success would have been far greater, as Liverpool is the most famous UK city after London.

Liverpool and Manchester are two brothers that just bicker, both sides of the M62 like eachother, but Football and banter has disabled some relations.
Most Liverpudlians don’t give a hoot about Manchester and think it is near Sheffield or Leeds or somewhere. Out there.

Manchester will always try and rival...
It should not. It should go its way and not look over its shoulder all the time.

There was a thread on there forum about there 3 graces.. LOL i just smirked, becuase it made me laugh and was quite funny. They have an Airport over us and probably will for a while.
Luton has an airport too and that has not made Luton a major international city. Bill Bryson said Manchester was an airport with a city attached.

Liverpool will always be the big brother sitting on the coast watching the other citys bicker. But we all know Liverpool celebrates 800 years soon.. **** ME.. 800.. We'll always be the Big Bro city, and the development will help that.

Both cities are not of top world quality that is clear – there is just optimism in both. Liverpool has a whole dock complex to develop which will take a long time, and if properly done will make Liverpool a true top class world city – and it needs to install into its citizens not to fly-tip and constantly litter the city (a people problem).

Both can be world class if they keep going the in the right direction. The North West assembly may ensure that progress continues as power is taken from London – the problem in curtailing both cities is the south. The greed and power of the south has to be negated. If power is centred in London, when times contract they will ensure that London does not suffer - at the expense of others. If times are good and London benefits and others do elsewhere that is the fortune of the others – that is the way they look at it. A power shift appears to be on the way, although I fear not enough. The power triangle of London-Oxford-Cambridge has to be broken for the rest of the country to prosper properly. That is where both cities must direct more energy. Seat of government in Liverpool?

LIVERPOOL AND MANCHESTER ARE WORLD KNOWN
Very true in the case of Liverpool, Manchester less so. Liverpool does have the benefit of The Beatles, Grand National, two British Open golf courses, School of Tropical Medicine, two Cathedrals one of them being one of the largest churches in Christendom and the fact that millions throughout the world can trace their ancestry through the Port of Liverpool. I haven't even mentioned Liverpool's cultural achievements like the RLPO etc. On a visit to New York a few years ago I was impressed by the line up of Liverpool authored shows on the marquees of Broadway; Blood Brothers, Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine. This line up would be impressive coming from a city as big as London, Paris or Rome.

World wide, Liverpool is viewed, for one reason or another with affection and this enhances it's recognition as a world city. Of course, The Beatles makes Liverpool a brand name with recognition like McDonalds, Shell, HSBC etc. Not many cities world wide have this recognition.

WELL i believe Liverpool is getting the assembly for england in it.. Not in Manchester or anywere else! Without these cities though London would collpase. I have heard from people in the army that MI5 will be moving here and defence to take the eye and power from London. Liverpool has a bigger dockland than london for god sake! Thats Britains problem. They seem to centralise everything round that city that isnt even London anymore. Its changed for the worse there!

M15 is meant to moving here! Well half of it apparently! We ran the Second World War from here remember? London used to be our rival remember, now they seem like the opposite older brother! I think London, never has to bicker because of its size! Only becasue Liverpool fell down! If we start growing again were gonna cause some fucken damage!

People seriously are turning there nose from london back to Liverpool, just like the two cities shared everything only 100 years back! Its starting again! As the towers of Liverpool shoot up, and our city expands, we will push the borders, population i think in about 10 yaers will hit around 2 million or more with boundaries pushed and our city growing. Manchester will increase its area span as well, and creep up to a few million. Liverpool will have the huge NEW YORK port. Manchester will be the airport. Liverpool and Manchetser will build an North Wset Econamy that will simply defiy the South for GOOD! alongside preston, warrington, and the rest of us.. We take out a lot in population size, and power here! We just dont realsie it, from invetions, to medcine, to peole, we nearly the balls of the oceans up here only in 1800-1900's... Liverpool and Manchester.. London love your city but to be honest were gonna get really big up here, and in the end London and the south.. We aint gonna need you!

Together both could sort out the NW for good. And i think the rest of the UK know this, and are becoming quite frightened by the idea of the two cities having to much power.. Not really in Manchester, but for Liverpool to have the supremecy alongside London again! London likes being miles above the rest, and who wouldnt, but there becoming i think restless and the thought of the citys rising up! Maybe im wrong because London people really like Liverpool, and London never has a bad word to say about Liverpool. I think the government and fat cat businesses are doing it!

Who funds the EH
Who works for the EH
Who has the power in EH
Were are they from in EH

Questions that need to be looked into!

Good stuff, AMC Liv Manc. That's made me chuckle.

Good to know that the Army and MI5 agents are making sure that top secret information is staying in the right hands.

Where do you get this info?

Without these cities though London would collpase. I have heard from people in the army that MI5 will be moving here and defence to take the eye and power from London.
When the MOD moves here and Sandhurst is just outside I might take that seriously. Any other moves are just gestures.

Liverpool has a bigger dockland than london for god sake! Thats Britains problem.
No, that’s Liverpool’s problem.

M15 is meant to moving here! Well half of it apparently! We ran the Second World War from here remember?
No. Only the most important battle that ran from the first day of the war to the last day – the Battle of the Atlantic.

London used to be our rival remember, now they seem like the opposite older brother! I think London, never has to bicker because of its size! Only becasue Liverpool fell down! If we start growing again were gonna cause some fucken damage!
No. London will only allow what it thinks should go from the south to appease the north. The powerbase is still in the south, and until that is smashed London/south will always be in control.

People seriously are turning there nose from london back to Liverpool,
They are not, London is still draining the talent from elsewhere.

Liverpool will have the huge NEW YORK port. Manchester will be the airport. Liverpool and Manchetser will build an North Wset Econamy that will simply defiy the South for GOOD!
I hope you are right, but I see nothing that suggests that will ever be the case.

Together both could sort out the NW for good. And i think the rest of the UK know this, and are becoming quite frightened by the idea of the two cities having to much power..
I see no serious power shift to the North West except a regional assembly.

London people really like Liverpool, and London never has a bad word to say about Liverpool.
Most hate the accent and think Liverpool is a slum, although never been there. The image of Liverpool in the south is poor and that is being generous.

The problem with Londoners/southerners is that they have selective amnesia. The worst train journey I have ever taken in The UK was from Charring Cross to Charlton, as I rambled past the shanties of south London. I was working at Barclays bank in Knutsford once - Knutsford is a very affluent town. The southerners said it was nice, but immediately homed in on the slummy parts of Manchester you have drive through from Knutsford to get to the centre, highlighting the contrast. I pointed out the south London slum belt between Surrey and the city – they shut up.

I am planning to visit Liverpool beetween 22nd and 26 of May when I have a week off work,I havn't been for about two years, will I notice a big difference like there is in Manchester ? I have high expectations. The centre always seemed smaller and less dense than Manchester, although Manchester has smaller artificial bounderies as everone knows.Looking forward to my visit :)

Liverpool centre is quite large, from the Pier Head/Albert Dock/Princes Dock right up past Lime St station to the Catholic cathedral and the Anglican cathedral on the other flank. The centre is not just the shopping area. The centre is also being extended further into the south of the city - Kings Dock/Baltic Triangle. Future, is further to the north too.

Manchester has smaller artificial bounderies as everone knows.

You'll see a lot of building work, but I think 2008 will be the best time to visit, nothing to do with capital of culture but the fact that we'll finally start to see significant changes to the city centre which will see a resurgent Liverpool in a way that we would approve.
