Lokoja's new master plan out
234next.comA draft master plan, which will check indiscriminate developments in Lokoja is ready, the Kogi State Government announced on Thursday.
The Commissioner for Environment and Physical Development, Mohammed Sule, said this while presenting the new master plan to the Kogi House of Assembly in Lokoja.
With the master plan, Mr. Sule said that physical developments along six major roads in Lokoja would be controlled.
He named the affected roads as Muritala Mohammed, Ibrahim Taiwo, Ibrahim Babangida, Ganaja, Aliu Atttah, Kabba-Okene, and Hassan Usman Katsina highways.
The Commissioner explained that efforts would be made to reposition some old layouts previously prepared without reference to the urban programme.
He assured that landowners and allotees of plots would be involved in future planning programme.
Mr. Sule who disclosed that government would spend more than N62 million to implement the new plan said it would cover 25 years from 2010.
The commissioner said that the implementation of the plan would commence after a final approval by the relevant government authorities.
Yinusa Ibrahim, the Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Environment and Physical Development, commended the initiators of the master plan. He promised that the house would initiate a public hearing on the document.
Those who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the proposed project, advised the government to subject the document to further public scrutiny before its final approval to make it acceptable.
