All jokes aside, there is a meaning behind the madness.
There is too few football matches where the stadium was at full capacity, while the stadium would always be on full capacity for concerts. By building a new section with a lower capacity (and telescope seatings), you can get about the same revenue from the football games, but for the concerts, you can place the stage much farther back, greatly increasing the capacity.

Just next to Parken, you will find the old Østerbro Stadium, which has been refurbished with completion last year. The new stadium will focus more on athetics and less on football, even though Divisional football will be played weekly on the center turf.

BTW. the ugly yellow/blue combination is Sweden´s colours and not the disgrase of danish football called Brøndby IF.

Very unfortunate that Gate 2 wasn't preserved at the real Yankee Stadium. The new parkland will probably be littered with broken glass, used condoms and syringes in no time anyway.

The old Ion Moina from Cluj, now demolished and soon to be replaced by a modern stadium.
The first stadium in the city was built in 1911 and later was moved some 30 kilometers away to Campia Turzii. It is still used. A new stadium with a capacity of 30.000 places was built in its place in 1961, In 2008 it was decided to build a modern stadium for Cluj, thus the old stadium was demolished. The new stadium is U/C now and expected to be completed in the summer of 2011.

It was a soviet legend, one and only russian water stadium, in Moscow. The place where russian athletes could do surfing on public. Surfing was so exotic for russia..
Now it lays abandoned.

Empire Stadium, Vancouver

Opened in 1954 with a capacity of 32,729 for the Empire Games (now Commonwealth Games).

Capacity eventually was reduced to 30,229 after 1974.

The main tenants were the BC Lions and Vancouver Whitecaps until they moved to BC Place in 1983. The stadium was finally demolished in 1993 and was turned into a park.

Right now it is the site of a temporary stadium called Empire Fields (cap. 27,500). It will be used for both the BC Lions and Vancouver Whitecaps until 2011 when the new roof for BC Place is completed.

In order to break the monopoly the MCC had on major sporting stadium in Melbourne, the VFL (now the AFL) build VFL Park out at Waverley

as you can see, while the full terrace level was built, only part of the full stadium was. With a capacity of over 70k, the plan was to expand it with demand till the final stadium would have a capacity of 150k

sadly the expansion never happened, and the cheap ass AFL failed to keep the stadium in decent repair. by the time they decided to sell the land and switch to the Docklands, the joint was close to falling apart.

Today the vast majority of the stadium is gone. The carpark is how suburban housing, however the oval has been retained, as to part of the old stadium (which is now shops and a training facility for the Hawthorn Football Club). This pick is old, the bulldozed areas are now housing

Centralni štadion za Bežigradom, Ljubljana, Slovenia - 8.259. Built in 1938. Constructed by Slovenia's most famous architect Jože Plečnik. Used many years as NK Olimpija Ljubljana main ground in Yougoslav 1st division and then in Slovenian 1st division. Without the seating in the Yugoslav league, the stadium could hold up to 25.000 people.
Was used as slovenian national stadium until recently (5 years ago).
There have been plans of modernisation, but the site is a cultural monument, so some parts have to be preserved. There are still some plans and hopefully something will be done finally.
Meanwhile Olimpija is getting a new ground.
