In 1941 Hitler had ordered the Germany army to raze St. Petersburg from the ground. For two and a half years the Russian army held back the siege. Over 1 million Russians lost their lives defending Leningrad. If it wasn't for the valor of these soldiers, this magnificent city would be all but lost.

St. Petersburg is breathtaking. It fascinates me. Those magnificent buildings and the boulevards and the northern sky.

It is the setting for so many great works of literature. Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky. Pushkin. I have read so much about it. The events of Nicholas and Alexandra. The setting of the Leningrad Symphony. The unimaginable suffering of the Siege.

It looks like a royal city.
