It appears that we would require a discussion page. Dont want to see the projects thread getting fouled. Lets share our idea for the development of Malappuram here.

Here is the discussion thread to discuss anything under the sun.
PS: And the sun is Malappuram.:)

I hope this Government consider all that eligible towns of Kerala for upgradation. Otherwise Malappuram will have to face stones for being considered to be a corporation irrespective of the fact that it deserves to be one.

Anyante sankadam kanan agrahikkunnavaralla Malappurathukar. Athu kond thanne thinnan kittiyillel bakiyullavarokke pattni kidakkanam enna thathvam manassilakanum kazhiyilla.

Malappuram currently has three mid sized Malls under construction.
1,Mattil Mall at Down Hill,
2,Tharif Mall at Tirur
3,Indian Mall at Manjeri.

Good news is that all three has got multiplex theatres in it. Film City in Mattil, Dileep's D-Cinemas(??) in Tharif and Most probably Film City itself in Indian Mall.

Shows our potential.

Yes, totally agree with you.

Malappuram is one town in Kerala which witnessed drastic development after 2000. Especially in the education sector. Lots of institutions and universities are now located in Malappuram.

Along with Malappuram, Kannur, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Palakkad also need to upgraded as Municipal Corporations.

I must say, its a nicely played article from The Hindu by pushing the regional leftist point of view regarding the upgradation.
Firstly, there are several mistakes in the figures.
Population of Malappuram Municipality is shown wrong purposefully reduced to 58,000 when in fact its almost 70,000. While Kannur population is shown slightly increased ( Jus talking about the figures as its being highlighted in article). At the same time, Malappuram municipality along with its single outgrowth's population does cross one lakh. Further If we are allowed to add adjacent and contiguous areas around the municipality like wards in Kootilangadi panchayat and Kodur panchayat, it also can reach a figure similar to Kottayam's. then comes Manjeri Municipality which is the twin town of Malappuram and if that's also included, you know how more the figures would be. And definitely its the fourth largest Urban Agglomeration in kerala which might not be of value for many, but its a fact and need to face it.
So what wrong does these people find?
no norms are being violated here. If their so called source has that information, let them clearly say it, what norm is being violated? Farm land? usual accusation to stop any development
The only thing in the article I can agree with is the eligibility and priority of other towns which is definitely a point. Government not considering them, that is Kannur and Kottayam is nothing but wrong. But all these doesn't make malappuram ineligible. Whats seen in the article is a desperate effort to stop league getting a Mayor seat.
And FYAI, this news appeared today isn't a coincidence but out of the frustration reading the Municipal budget released yesterday which clearly states that Municipality will be upgraded to corporation and it would go to any extend to achieve what it deserves for the progress of Malappuram and the district.

^^ One thing that I agree with article is that corporation should not be formed by non-urban areas just for sake of population increase. And the trivandrum case is true in that regard. Many outwards wards in tvm corporation is more like village only. One could still see even huts and house made of mud bricks and temporary roof, local markets where people sell their farm products etc which are purely traits of villages. Kochi and Calicut are on other side where adjoining areas of corporation are city like but still called as village. Hence the pop of tvm corp 9+ lak and kochi/clt 6L each.

So while making corporation they shouldnt just focus on pop number. Hope they merge only urban areas in malapuram to form corp.

Thats something need to be taken cared separately. We all would like to see only urban and semi urban areas under corporation. Why does it become an issue only with Malappuram's case when all the existing corporations have rural areas in it? Something like this has to be dealt as a policy amendment which is no way connected with Malappuram becoming corporation.
Secondly Government has not even come up with exact corporation limit for Malappuram or what all places are going to be part. Hence its easily understandable what the intentions are behind these oppositions.

NH 17 Byepass to Puthuponnani Ayankalam nariparambu kadavu 2nd phase at tendering stage

Is there any progress in the byepass work other than the newspaper reports ?

The sorry state of the First of its kind participation by the Kerala State in development of National Highway byepass clearly indicates. when it comes to road and infra.

the state finds it difficult
