No IndiGo flight has been cancelled at M'lore yet, so i suppose its fairly safe, however on 18th may the flight took off at 12:30am, so unless the weather turns violent you will eventually board the flight. IMO, they will have a lot of spare aircraft's at BLR around that time in case there is a technical fault with the original aircraft

Ah, that's plenty of time to connect to G9498 for sure.

At best, you need a minimum of 3 hours to transit at BIAL, because of your need to recheck your baggage to Sharjah.

And this flight shouldn't face too many delays, so no need to worry!

This project entails the bridge at the arrival/departure terminal can be used again by providing exit to arriving passengers at the bottom level of the departure hall.
Rao said the project of building expansion will be complete in 18 months and will have walkalators/ escalators to facilitate easy exit of arrival passengers to the car parking area. "The project consultants have been appointed. This work will be done when the airport is operational. Though it's a challenging task, we're up to it,'' he said.

The integrated terminal when built had provision for expansion making it a 2-level airport, Nice to see the terminal pushing towards full capacity in 2 levels, i was under the impression that the terminal would eventually extend towards east in front f the new apron, this arrangement IMO is better because it can have double capacity and + extend towards the east at some point in future when capacity is filled.

I wish it was true, because under the arrivals is the AAI office and building services while the baggage sorting area is behind the AAI/ATS office, directly under the check in counters and baggage claim belts, so now there is an empty space under the departures, East of the existing escalators, do you think there is a chance that they develop it into arrivals maybe like you said linking it directly from the inside of the building? But yeah cant see any real reason as to why they would do that, so should it be lateral expansion after all?

Mangaluru, Jun 10: Survey is being conducted to decide the possibility of opening an additional airport between Udupi and Mangaluru, said R V Deshpande the minister for large & medium industries and infrastructure development.

He was answering to a question raised by Captain Ganesh Karnik in Legislative Council, on Friday June 9.

“In a meeting held between chief secretary from the state government and chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI) on June 1, it was decided that a survey will be conducted first on the possibility of runway extension on an area of 33 kilometres at the existing Mangaluru International Airport. Then a survey will be conducted on the possibility of having an additional airport in between Udupi and Mangaluru,” Deshpande said.

A proposal of restructuring of Mangaluru International Airport on an additional area of 286 acres has been submitted to AAI. As the airport comes under, AAI, it has to take a final call on this matter. AAI has opined that it is difficult to acquire 286 acres of land. AAI also proposed four alternative plans. When the state government studied these four proposals, all looked impractical. Ultimately it was decided to carry out survey on the possibility of runway extension on 33 acres land and opening of additional airport between two coastal cities.” Deshpande added.

I welcome this development.. But should have been done much earlier before pumping in so much money on Bajpe airport!!! I am skeptical as to do we need 2 airports in this region??

State govt. to look into possibility of extending Mangaluru airport runway

The State government has decided to check the possibility of extending the Mangaluru airport runway with an extent of 33 acres of land for the critical mandatory requirement of safe landing.

The decision was taken at a meeting between Chief Secretary of Karnataka and Chairman, Airports Authority of India (AAI), Infrastructure Development Minister R.V. Deshpande told members in the Legislative Council on Friday.

Replying to a question by BJP member Capt. Ganesh Karnik, the Minister said the AAI chairman in a letter dated April 20 had communicated to the State that since the cost of further development of Mangaluru airport envisages huge capital outlay, the State government should consider sharing the cost of development apart from providing free land.

Four options

The AAI gave four options for construction and asked the State government to suggest the preferred option after evaluation.

The State has to provide the required land for expansion and upgrade free of cost and free from all encumbrances to AAI. Following this, a meeting was held between the Chief Secretary and AAI chairman, Mr. Deshpande said.

With the State spending Rs. 68.92 crore on land acquisition, rehabilitation and development of alternative roads so far, the Finance Department has said that the expenditure for future expansion has to be borne by AAI as Mangaluru airport belongs to AAI.

Subsequently, the director of Mangaluru airport had submitted a Rs. 1,120-crore proposal for expansion. An additional amount of Rs. 800 crore has been estimated for acquisition of 286 acres, including three hills, and to fill up the valley in the land, Mr. Deshpande said.

PPP model not feasible

However, as there was no information about financial viability in the proposal and the Airports Authority of India had not committed to bearing the expenditure of the project, the Chief Minister had directed the officials to conduct a feasibility study for expansion on a public-private-partnership basis, and it was found that expansion was not feasible on a PPP model.
