Is Tokyo really the largest city in the world?

Is the Greater Tokyo Built-up Area larger than New York's built-up area? Or vice versa?
Slightly off topic... Sorry...Anyway here it is...

How many McDonald's outlets are there in Greater Tokyo (by Greater Tokyo I mean-->Tokyo-to; Cities of Yokohama and Kawasaki; prefecture of Chiba, Kanagawa and Saitama.

New York's built-up area is larger. New York's is the largest in the world at over 4000 sq miles. Tokyo is in the top ten at about 2500 sq miles, I think. It's a little smaller than Los Angeles.
