Ensjøbyen

Ensjøbyen is a large masterplan project just east of downtown Oslo. Over the next 15 years this district will be transformed from its industrial
look with car dealers to a thriving, green and urban city district with offices, shops and 5000-7000 apartments.

Description in Norwegian:
I 2004 vedtok bystyret i Oslo å utvikle bydelen.

Websites:

I can't understand why Kværnerbyen gets all the shit when we have projects like this going on. The "byen"-name should be protected against suburbs like this. I like the waterstreams running along with the pavement and I think I will like Kristin Jarmunds building, but rest looks like utter shit imho.

I think it is actually worse. Kværnerbyen does have a almost urban feeling along the car streets and it does not have any connection with the rest of the city (hence why I wouldn't expect an expansion of the city center). This on the other hand seems to be more of a garden city (aka suburb) and should be an expansion of the rest of the city due to the placement, which it seems to fail at.

Its a bit early to judge, but I take your point. But I was also very negative to Kværnerbyen to begin with, but that turnes out better than I thought. The most dissapointing with this project is imo the tyngepunkt. The buildings seems randomly placed and creates only a small urban space, not to talk about the open metro solution.

^^ You know, I think the road running through 22 on the map could be quite respectable and almost urban. My main beef is with all the blocks tucked away in the back gardens.

Both projets are quite ok. However where are the urban developments of Vestkanten? There are none outside Fjordcity :eek:hno:

^^Skøyen:) We could make a thread about it, but just as Nydalen, it's a pretty slow-moving and partial project without a masterplan.

^^ is it really that many projects at Skøyen and Nydalen that they need a thread? I barely thought Kværnerbyen and Ensjøbyen was active enough, and they are certainly x10 compared to those two who is more or less completed already.

I guess I could dig up 5-10 projects for both of them, but I don't think there is a need more than just gathering some info, and create kind of an "urban showcase" for people who aren't familiar with the areas. I don't know what other thinks, that the projects are "too far" down the development axis to be included?:?

We have a Tjuvholmen and a Holtet-thread, far smaller projects. I think we could manage to get at least that kind of activity, but for Nydalen we already have a thread for Signalbygget, which is a reason not to make a new thread I guess.

I can't speak for others, but I would prefer to not have any developments treads dedicated to specific areas unless they are all part of the same masterplan.

Whatever happened to the masterplans over the tracks at Majorstua?
I don't know if we're ever going to start talking about Ensjø here...

They aren't canceled in any way. But they have to wait for the Majorstuen station to move. So I guess we won't see anything happening in another 5 years.

I'm not completely sure about which highrise you are talking about (I can't see anything on the overview map in the OP either), but the plans I posted are from 2009 and much can have been changed since then.
