This hasn't been posted in the Vic forum yet:

i spoke with DCM architects today and they said the DA will be lodged at end of year. It could change from above render.the 50storeys will be mixed use. not all office.maybe 200m-250m overall height is all he said.
Interesting that we've seen conceptual designs for all buildings except MCR's Building 1 and obviously the Design Hub.

^^ must have been taken by a great man
The second main element of this project, the DCM tower, is still at the early stages of conceptualization. Actually i also spoke to a director at DCM today (wth another purpose)- and to someone at Grocon. The very little i gleaned basically accords with what Cul was told.

my impression was that they are being very cagey about the DCM tower, and its height, partly because there's a lot not yet decided, and partly because they don't want to generate opposition. A couple of other sparse hints: one person spoke of the staggered height elements as 'shards'; the idea that the tallest would be a symbolic light column was "just an early idea." There's a possibility that the building's grouping of columns could all be occupied spaces to their full height (the 'windows' just showing in the only render available had already suggested that possibility to me, like penthouses or executive suites.)

One person said the building would be "not much higher than that building on the corner nearby (Verve)," but that's where i thought they were being careful about not wanting to frighten the horses - 'high' being a pejorative word just about everywhere else but here, it often seems .

In the news articles last week, Howard Raggatt spoke of the ARM arch in terms of what the Arc De Triomphe is to Paris. The DCM tower is to be its key flanking element, further drawing the eye to it.

For that role to work it will have to be visible - well above Verve. I'm still hopeful for up to 250m, so it will show clearly.

something else ...

On the Skyscrapers thread, where Cul's DCM post was made, he responded to another post saying this was the most exciting development in Australia atm, by saying something called Space Tower in Sydney beats it, and all others. I can't find this Space Tower on the NSW forum - something else special for Bligh Street (not 33) has been talked about i think.

i don't think anything can shadow the CUB project . The two mile ceremonial vista to the Shrine will make it unique.

hmmm. hmmm. Yes. Be vairy, vairy careful Sir Cully, Cully Culwulla.

otherwise Pepe La Bronte may take up his paintbrushes again.

Like theese !

(apologies to Archibomber - taken from his 204m render, view from Victoria Street)

Looks like a full moon for Sydney tonight!
romatique! ^^ pepe doesn't really want to be responsible for any bad feeling up there - or here.
We need more Bronteboys in this world!
Bronte, I love the way you hid Milano in one of your works of art, I just wish it was that easy to make it disappear.

Melbourne not only has ONE massive development going on but Three - CUB, Power Station and Docklands Batman Hill plus a number of smaller Public / Private projects that any other city would die for!

*waits for Pepe La Bront's latest masterpiece*

Thanks Muse, but Pepe's gone on a little holiday (to Rome) and Bronte's officially disappointed: rushed out for my copy of The Age this morning, and there was no news of any huge new projects in it!

One can only hope - great photo! I really hope that the north side develops some liveliness as the development continues, esp. CUB.
