I'm in Collector The Unmatchable's territory here I know, but seek no prizes for searching: scanned these from a book Miles Lewis did for the City of Melbourne in 1995:'Melbourne/The City's History and Development.' I think some are seldom seen and interesting

Here's a 1960s vision for a Civic Square opposite State Parliament:

Manchester Unity U/C

and in its glory completed

And soon there'll be none ...

A site about to see some construction - if they get their renders right:

Hotel Australia brochure, 1939

Like old friends...Paul Newman had the right idea in 'Cool Hand Luke' (sorry, showing my age again - he twisted their heads off)

I like old Melbourne. I also like new Melbourne. I like Bronteboy and his diligant work finding pictures of old Melbourne. Good work Bronteboy.
I don't mind some of that proposal for the Parliament Precinct. The new roads at the rear and the civic square out the front isn't too bad, but I hate the building over Bourke St.

The original architects Kerr and Knight had a plan something similar but the pollies knocked in on the head after the Eureka uprising believeing that huge mobs would be able to assemble and lead to riots.
I think you will find the captions for the laying of the Town hall and the GPO pick are swapped around....This is the GPO

Well done. That's exactly right redbaron 012 - and just shows one should look properly at the picture and not taken the printed word for gospel.
