OK time for a new thread. Other one has 500+ posts already.

A brief summary of what's happening soon:

1. Cathay Pacific to increase to 3x daily from October 2007.
2. Thai to increase to 2x daily from September.
3. Indian Airlines/Air India to start MEL from either Nov 2007 or Jan 2008.
4. Qatar Airways to start "eventually." Lol.
5. Korean Air possibly starting from Nov 2007.
6. Air China to start turn-around PEK-PVG-MEL-PVG-PEK from Nov.
7. Rumours of Oasis Airways (Hong Kong) starting in August.
8. Qantas to introduce 2x weekly MEL-Shanghai service from Mar 2008.
9. Virgin Atlantic to start MEL sometime in the near future.

10. And finally.....A380 to start MEL-LAX as of next year!!!

Looking good for MEL at the moment, however some of the above needs to be confirmed as only some of what I have listed is 100% happening.

Old thread needs to be closed.

How about some news on Terminal refurbishments / enlargements?... can't help but feel like Melbourne Tulla's development has come to a screetching halt ever since the expansion of the International Terminal was completed....

Anyone got any insights? (the airport's website just doesn't give anything away - it sucks!!).

Cheers. :)

It has unfortunately. There really is nothing planned at the moment and development is unecessary as there is not enough growth for it to happen. I wouldn't expect anything really big for a year or two as the airport needs to recover from Austrian's and BA's withdrawl and await new carriers.

There is a copy of the masterplan on the old thread which should give you some insight into the "big vision." Some new runways, bit of terminal expansion and that's pretty much it.

Don't forget however, Tiger will be using T4 which Virgin first used when they started up and it looks like the forecourt may soon get a bit of a facelift.

No mention of Tiger Air. I thought they were basing their headquarters in MEL!

Melbourne airport will fund capital works for a new Tiger terminal sooner or later I'd say. Depends how fast and how large their expansion is. There is plenty of room to extend T3 southwards the way the QF terminal was extended. I imagine it would come in the form of a common user terminal rather than for Tiger specifically. Similar to the way most terminals are organised in the U.S.

I think (but don't quote me on this) there may even be foundations already in place for just such an expansion that were done when Ansett built the southern concourse.

The masterplan shows an extension southward but the plans were drawn up long before Tiger was even born! I wonder what the expansion is meant for? It looks like quite a large terminal similar to the international, south of T3 but I doubt this would be used as a low cost terminal.

The main problem with MEL, is that the international terminal cannot really be expanded any further. There's just simply no more room and there are two other terminals on either side of it.

When the terminal will eventually need to be expanded, what will they do?

The best solution would probably to build a new terminal south of the Virgin terminal and move Virgin and Rex and so on into that. Then the existing terminal would be renovated and merged with the existing international terminal. The main concourse of the Virgin terminal would also need to be heavily rebuilt but it would probably still be cheaper and have a better outcome then having a whole new terminal on the other side of the airport.

Did you actually look at the masterplan image before you wrote that post?

^^ Is that long orange building south of the extension of T3 suppose to be a new terminal or a new cargo area?

I'll ask the question once more as it still applies:

Tayser, obviously I did as I'm asking about something that was SPECIFICALLY on the masterplan..AND, I even said what is the "ORANGE" area.

Once and for all, just stop commenting after every one of my posts in every thread and trying to make me feel like a shit head. Also, just because I don't reply to your comments doesn't mean I don't read them!

But you are a little shithead who is incapable of putting two and two together at the age of 26 (supposedly) - going on 12 - when the answer is staring you so blatantly in the fucking face.

The image/map explicitly states the answer to your question, yet you chose to post the question regardless, why? Because you haven't learned a single thing from the responses you garner up. Start learning.

As people have said before, a little more careful consideration before wasting your own time would go a long long long way to helping your credibility and posts like this don't help whatsoever either.
