Another massive arguement about to start.....
Sydney no 1 for Aust again, Brisbane the worst. This Mercer organisation is obviously talking out if its arse and needs to read these forums before it prints its stuff !! ;)

Australian cities rank for life quality
05:50 AEDT Tue Mar 15 2005

AP - Australian cities are among the best in the world in which to live, according to a new survey.

Sydney ranked highest of the major Australian cities in the 2005 Mercer survey of quality of life - eighth equal with Auckland in New Zealand; Bern in Switzerland; and Copenhagen in Denmark.

However, Sydney had slipped three places from the human resources company's 2004 survey when it was the fifth best place to live.

All the other Australian cities in the survey either slipped from last year's rankings or stayed the same.

Melbourne was 14th compared with 12th last year; Perth stayed the same on 20th, Adelaide slipped one place to 25th; and Brisbane, which was 24th equal with Adelaide last year, fell to the 31st best quality of life.

The Swiss cities of Geneva and Zurich had the best quality of life while, unsurprisingly, Baghdad had the worst.

The survey, which covers 215 cities worldwide, is based on an evaluation of 39 criteria including personal safety, political, social, economic and environmental factors, and health, education, transport and other public services.

Luxembourg was ranked the safest place in the world, while Baghdad, again, was ranked last.

The safety survey evaluated the cities for crime levels and internal stability.
"The top-ranking cities for personal safety and security are in politically stable countries with good international relations and sustainable economic growth," said Slagin Parakatil, senior researcher at Mercer.

"Most of the low-scoring cities are in countries with civil unrest, little law enforcement and high levels of crime."

I'm currently rubbing my feet on the carpet.

When I have enough energy, I will pursue you eastern state scum with much vigor.

For the time being, Melbourne stole our grand prix and can't play football.
No need to argue about anything.

Australia is the best place to live.

The end!

ooohhh poor thing, u have a good sook. lol
I wonder if noise from the grand prix was a factor in lowering the quality of living for Melbournites.

I note that environmental factors were considered in the survey. The pigeons must be pissed off with the engine noise.

Also consider the relationship between pigeons and Bill Lawry. If it harms the pigeons, it harms Bill Lawry. I bring attention to the fact that Bill Lawry bagged Melbourne twice during a telecast of cricket last summer. The effect on the Melbourne psyche must have been enormous. One can't deny that pigeons had something to do with it.

And the cycle repeats on itself.

Next year is another grand prix (okay, maybe not apparently). The pigeons get pissed off again. It's a vicious cycle that can only result in Melbourne's continued slide down the rankings of Joe Blow's quality of life survey.
what happened to the other survey which put melbourne at #1?

Pigeons??? wtf. and btw. it's 'Melburnian'

i think the dead calm of adelaide has slowly melted your brains. Honestly get over your disdain of Melbourne.

The fact is the GP is here to stay and all your sooking isnt goin to change it. so tuff shit.

you have to understand, Melbourne is so great that even Sydney stops for 3 mins every year to pay homage... :)
^ Why is it that whenever I read 'Ozscraper' forums, Australians are always bagging each other cities out, I mean we live in the same country, and I know some of it is fun, but the state vs state city vs city grudge must end, and all build the country as a whole....I wonder if there any federal government workers who think like you...> no wonder nothing gets done in oz.

The above article suggests that the pigeons died of a bacterial infections, caused by exposure to a cold climate. This is irrefutable evidence that these migratory birds were once in Melbourne. It can only be assumed that these birds later died on the other side of the planet because the noise from the grand prix scared them away from Melbourne.
yer wtf, why is melb like 12th and before melb was first and Perth was like 3rd, how can it change in like one year?

Different survey you're talking about I think.
According to this article Melb was 12th last yr, now 14th and Perth stayed in 20th spot.
Only believe the surveys that puts Melbourne at number #1. The rest are crap

LOL - dean get over your disdain of everywhere outside of Melbourne. You should really get out more - even Tayser thought Adelaide was a great city and stated a great thread on his trip there!!

the reality is there is nothing in it between all major australian cities. maybe sydney was sunny and melbourne it was raining, only thing in it really what the weather was like on the day people visited.
feel happy that so many australian cities are all rated as worlds best on a good day.
