Uh, oh, my bad (as they say)! I was under the impression that CityWest provided purchasable units, like Housing Commission sometimes does.
There are 2 CityWest developments at Victoria Park, a 4 storey job on Grandstand Pde., and the 9 storey block on O'Dea currently under construction.
They are integrated into blocks of private apartment blocks or terraces, not mini-cities like Meriton.
There is another CityWest block on Lachlan St opposite Meriton's Crown Square, and guess which is the better design?
No prizes.

Ugh... Crown Square. How anyone can live there? I went for a walk down there a few weeks back and have had nightmares ever since! The monotony of the cream paint and tinted-glass balustrades and the dead public areas are soul-destorying.

^ convenience. remember, ssc forumers love of architecture and skyscrapers is much more unusual than the general populace's absolute care factor zero.

We also need cheap apartments so that normal people can afford them. The problem with Meriton is that they are cheap apartments at rich people's prices.
I can imagine a lot of slumlords leasing out to international students just like World Tower. All those flyers sticked onto telegraph poles.

International students are entitled to better living conditions. The slumlords are exploiting them to pay off any mortgages they have on the unit or investment.

This has become a Sydneywide problem.

better conditions than what? a 1960s red brick walkup in ashfield? a friend of mine took a thai friend around the CBD helping her look for an apartment, what a shock, illegal dormitories etc galore. It will take a fire and people burnt to death for the government to act.

I'd imagine a lot of landlords think they have let their investment to a 'couple' and it is infact been illegally sublet - some Body Corporates must be having kittens over this sort of stuff??

Nice photo but that's an uber deceptive dusk shot that totally misrepresents the facade IMO.

This is what you wake up to:

This building is f-ing horrendous. I have to look at this thing every day I go to work.

If you go look at in the flesh you will not be impressed by it. Especially when it has buildings like the Oracle and Aria just near by.
