Palazzo Sistema
Milano | Lombardia | Italy

The Lombardia Region has launched a two-stage international design competition for the construction of a new headquarters, Palazzo Sistema, intended to host the bodies and companies of the Region. The existing complex, spanning over an area of about 25,000 sqm (+269,000 sqft), will be demolished. The intervention area is included between the streets Pola, Taramelli, Abbadesse and Rosellini, in a strategic position due to its proximity to Palazzo Lombardia and Grattacielo Pirelli, served by local public transport, close to the districts of Maggiolina, Porta Nuova, Porta Garibaldi, Isola, Farini. According to the competition document, the new iconic building will be designed and built in compliance with environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, the centrality of man and equity, the use of cutting-edge construction technologies and innovative and eco-sustainable materials, the use of sustainable mobility and all the most modern design standards.

The first phase of the competition, whose deadline is set for May 24th, 2022, is aimed at selecting the five best project proposals to be admitted to the second phase, which will close on September 6th, 2022. The winner of the competition will have to develop the project at the level of technical and economic feasibility and, in compliance with the provisions of the announcement, the definitive and executive design may also be assigned. Around 130 million euros is the estimated cost for the construction work.

Palazzo Sistema: 28 design proposals have been submitted to the architecture contest.
But only five will be admitted to the 2nd phase of the contest (which ends September 6th).
We'll discover the winning project in the following months, probably in November.

Pity that the last one particularly didn't became something legit and real. That would be something and an instant icon of Italian top modernism/hyper modernism/neo-futuristic style.I just hope they at least building it another place in Milano or another city in Italy,if not then somewhere in EU or the West/the Free World for that matter might go as well.Fingers crossed...Yeah..Whatta you know?...lol..🤷😅🤷👍👌💎🌈

Yeah,THAT one is super cool and neo-futuristic and all that,too.i.e. particularly the first one you linked, but it aren't that daring as this one, design wise and don't have an addition of a super cool main tower like that one that's been unfortunately rejected...Sure stuff it's again, both of them,though..Yeah..🤷😅👌💎

Anyway, we'll still have a new skyscraper and new public spaces by demolishing existing old low-rise buildings. The site is 25,000 sqm.
There are 27 other proposals, including the 5 finalists. Let's wait to see other design ideas and who wins in the end!

Winning project
design | Park Associati (Italy)

Italian architecture firm Park Associati is the winner of the two-phase design competition launched by the Lombardia Region for the construction of a new headquarters, Palazzo Sistema, intended to host the companies of the regional institution. An existing office complex (see pic below), spanning over an area of about 25,000 sqm (+269,000 sqft), will be demolished.

The project is designed in compliance with environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, the centrality of man and equity, the use of cutting-edge construction technologies and innovative and eco-sustainable materials, the use of sustainable mobility and all the most modern design standards.

Greenery is the protagonist of the project thanks to the public garden which becomes an element of urban mending, enhancing the relationship with the garden city on via Taramelli. Designed on "Dry Garden" principles, the garden is self-sufficient and will require low maintenance. Dips in the ground allow the collection of rainwater which is then slowly drained, favoring climate mitigation. The park is designed to be open to the community.

The architectural complex arises from a horizontal urban dimension and culminates with a highrise (+100 m) towards via Rosellini. The verticality is emphasized by a backbone made up of double and triple-height green terraces, recognizable from the outside thanks to modular panels of photovoltaic glass, which unfold in a large hanging garden roof on the roof of the low body. The continuous relationship with nature generates a biophilic building where sustainable architecture and the quality of the interior spaces promote personal well-being.
