Towards the "Monza Stadium"

SS Monza 1912 has obtained a 45-year lease of the building and become Italy's new football club to own a stadium.

After having won the public tender, SS Monza has stipulated a contract (which also include the Monzello training centre) with the municipality.
The team will pay a total of over 444 thousands euros over the next four decades.

The football club can now invest and refurbish it into the "Monza Stadium", by also introducing retail, entertainment and services.

In August 2017, SS Monza responsables had declared that the club's aim was to transform it into a modern stadium with a capacity of 22,000 seats at least.

Silvio Berlusconi in talks to buy SS Monza

What if SS Monza would become the third major football team in Milan's urban area, together with AC Milan and FC Inter?

Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani could make a return to Italian football, with reports indicating they are in talks to buy SS Monza, now playing in Serie C (Italy's third highest football division). The former AC Milan President sold the Rossoneri a little over a year ago, with Galliani following him out the door.

The Biancorossi (SS Monza) are owned by Nicolo Colombo, who's father Felice was in charge of AC Milan from 1977 to 1980.

It's believed Berlusconi would take over and become the majority shareholder, while Galliani would become a director for the club. Galliani previously worked as Monza's sporting director from 1984 to 1986, and a move would signal not only a return to football, but also to his home town.

"They have asked me a few things, in particular my plans over Stadio Brianteo and the Monzello sports center" said Nicolo Colombo. "If Berlusconi and Galliani would help us and put their money and know-how, Monza could finally go to Serie A".

Berlusconi to sign SS Monza acquisition by the end of September.

Former AC Milan owner, Silvio Berlusconi, start over again. The media tycoon, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, would sign the acquisition of the Biancorossi by the end of September since the negotiations with the Colombo family are well underway.

"It's a great honor for me to have Fininvest and Silvio Berlusconi as partners, and it would be very important for Monza. Our team has never been in Serie A and this could be an incentive, a goal never achieved in 106 years of history" said Nicola Colombo, current President of SS Monza.

Corriere dello Sport reported that Berlusconi will buy 70% of the club leaving 30% in the hands of Colombo. The idea of Berlusconi and Galliani would be to invest heavily on the players and set up a team of young Italians who could help to reinforce the national youth football team.

The plan also includes the stadium, through the refurbishment of Stadio Brianteo. The new "Monza Stadium" would have services, retail and dining.

Galliani confirms "Berlusconi wants Monza"

Adriano Galliani confirmed negotiations for Silvio Berlusconi to buy Serie C club Monza. "It went from temptation to genuine idea".

"Over the last three days, I received dozens and dozens of calls from players who are out of contract, agents interested in placing their clients with us, directors who are curious about the project" Galliani told the Corriere della Sera newspaper.

"The football universe is fired up, attracted by the possible return to the sport of Silvio Berlusconi. Do you know what they told me yesterday? The potential arrival of the Silvio and Adriano double act is giving Serie C the same effect that Cristiano Ronaldo generated in Serie A. We had only recently sold AC Milan and missed football a lot, so chatting about various things with the President last year, we had the idea of buying another club. We already acknowledged the only side we could purchase without ruining the unique rapport we had with Milan was Monza".

"Berlusconi turned down offers to buy up several clubs over the last few months and I declined roles in more than one club. The President lives 3km from the Brianteo Stadium, I was born there and started my directorial career there. We really do feel like Ulysses returning to Ithaca. Monza have been going for 106 years, but never made it to Serie A."

Galliani: "Brianteo will have 25,000 seats if Monza promoted to Serie A"

The Brianteo Stadium in Monza, north of Milan, will be adapted to the rules of the Serie B League: its capacity is going to be increased to 10,000 seats. But the "qualitative leap" could already take place in 2022 if and when football club AC Monza --for the first time in its history-- will compete in Serie A.

In case of promotion to Serie A, the Brianteo will become a completely different arena. "We will keep the main stand, but we will bring the playing field closer to new stands. The stadium will have a roof. We already have a rendering of our idea but let's wait to understand how the championship will go. The new capacity will be for a stadium of 22,000-25,000 seats" said AC Monza CEO, Adriano Galliani. In the meantime, the goal of AC Monza President Silvio Berlusconi is to increase the reputation and cheering around the Red and White team.

"We know nothing more than what Adriano Galliani has said so far, but we can only support this team and its projects - explains Andrea Arbizzoni, Sport Councilor for the Municipality of Monza. A new stadium would redevelop the area. I imagine that in the project, they have envisaged not only the sporting aspect but also the opportunity to create commercial activities".
