NGMK to supply uranium ore concentrate to India

Navoi Mining and Metallurgy Combine (NGMK) will supply 2,000 tonnes of uranium ore concentrate to India in 2014-2018, The Indian Express reported.
The report said that NGMK has signed up to supply 2,000 metric tonnes of Uranium ore concentrate to India over the next four years worth US$3.5 billion.

Firm from Uzbekistan is a first-time entrant in the Indian atomic fuel market and joins a list of suppliers from France, Russia and Kazakhstan.

Diversification of the uranium suppliers’ list is part of India’s strategy to counterbalance the fuel risk for the country’s nuclear reactors that are eligible to use imported uranium, the report said.

CITI, there is an apparent error in the reprinting of the original article from the Indian Express. The original text states that "The $3.5 billion firm from Uzbekistan is a first-time entrant in the Indian atomic fuel market and joins a list of suppliers from France, Russia and Kazakhstan."

You may find the complete article here: http://indianexpress.com/article/bu...ase-signs-up-uzbek-firm-for-uranium-supplies/

What this translates into is that the author estimates the worth of NMMC to be $3.5B. The value of the announced deal is not nearly as high.

NGMK launches second line of Kyzylkum Phosphorite Complex

Navoi Mining and Metallurgy Combine (NGMK) commissioned the second line of the Kyzylkum Phosphorite Complex.
The launch of new line will help to increase production of high-quality burned phosphorite concentrate to 716,000, which will increase production volume by twice.

Engineering Dobersek GmbH (Germany) participated in implementation of the project with total cost of US$59.92 million.

Within the implementation of investment projects “Expanding existing production of enriched raw phosphate” on the base of Kyzylkum phosphate complex, NGMK and Engineering Dobersek GmbH (Germany) signed a contract on designing technology, supply of equipment, spare parts, supervision and execution of commissioning works on “turnkey” totaling US$19.96 million.

The project is implemented due to resources of NGMK for US$24.92 million and loan of the State commercial Khalq Bank (People’s Bank) of Uzbekistan in national currency for equivalent of US$35 million.

The first line of the mining and processing complex in Kyzylkum has been launched in 1998. In January 2007, Kyzylkum phosphorite complex launches a facility on washing chloride from phosphorite ores with the capacity of 400,000 tonnes of washed calcined and 200,000 tonnes of washed dried phosphorite concentrate.

This helped to cut depreciation of equipment and communications on company-producers of phosphate fertilizers.

Uzbekistan suspends project on tungsten mining in Samarkand region

The Government of Uzbekistan adopted a decision to suspend a project on rehabilitation of tungsten production at Ingichke field in Samarkand region for uncertain period of time, RIA Novosi reported quoting source, close to the project.
The source said that the price uncertainty and excess of the metal on the market today are not allowing to make long-term forecasts, so the project was postponed. The project can be revived in summer of 2015.

The first phase of the project with preliminary cost of US$50 million envisaged rehabilitation of mine with the capacity of at least 300,000 tonnes of tungsten a year. In the second phase, it is planned to construct new enrichment plant. The capacity and the cost of which were not determined.

In last two years, the State Committee of Geology and Mineral Resources of Uzbekistan held negotiations with Korean and Chinese companies to develop feasibility study of the project. But the agreements with the sides were not signed.

Mining of tungsten at Ingichke field started in 1941. The field was closed down temporarily in 1996 due to low prices for tungsten. Uzbek Combine of Refractory and High-Temperature Metals, which processed 2,000 tonnes of tungsten concentrate a year, had to work with imported tungsten and decrease production volume.

In June 2013, the State Committee of Geology and Mineral Resources of Uzbekistan and Shindong Resources (South Korea) founded a joint venture Uzbekistan-Korea Tungsten to develop tungsten field Sautbai in Navoi region.

The project with the cost of US$145 million will be financed due to loans of international financial institutions and investments of founders of the joint venture.

The project participants are planning to construct processing enterprise with the capacity of 1,500 tonnes of highly enriched tungsten concentrate a year. The construction of the complex should be started in 2015.

According to information agency "Jahon" with reference to the press service of the enterprise, JSC "Almalyk MMC" in 2015 begins a series of investment projects.

Among them, the construction of copper smelting furnace, that will solve a number of problems: the increase of power, gas savings of the order of 43 million cubic meters per year and, of course, the improvement of the environment. This project is scheduled to the end of 2016.

Another attractive project - involvement in the testing of off-balance dump ore of "Kalmakyr" deposit, which will begin in 2015 and should be completed till the next year. Its implementation will further process 4,000,000 tonnes of ore per year. This will create new jobs and increase the capacity of the plant.

Construction of the underground mine at the site of Samarchuk field of "Kyzyl Alma" deposit in Angren begins. Later, the same construction of the mine will begin in the country between two rivers of the deposit.
In 2015, the cement plant will be reconstructed and its capacity will increase to 1 million tons.

Number of investment projects associated with the auxiliary production. In addition, there are projects aimed at expanding the production capacity, as well as projects that will save fuel and energy resources, funds that would eventually lead to lower costs production and increase profits.

Some parts of the investment projects, which will soon become profitable completed last year. Among them, sulfuric acid plant inventories, the installation of which has already been completed. Production of cement plant in Jizzakh region already in demand: about 155 thousand tons produced last year. It should be noted that the new production also provides new jobs.

Large consumers of fuel and energy resources (FER) in any country are industry and municipal economy. In industry the greatest consumption of FER accounts for non-ferrous and ferrous metallurgy, chemical, fuel and mining industry, machine building and metalworking.

Mining and metallurgical production In Uzbekistan is one of the most energy-intensive industries. Another important factor is that the products manufactured by industrial enterprises, including the Almalyk mining and metallurgical combine (AMMC), oriented on export and is directly related to the situation on the world market. Therefore, special attention on the enterprises paid to the implementation of measures aimed at saving fuel and energy resources.

For several years, AMMC consistently carries out work on the implementation of measures aimed at reducing consumption of FER.

Despite the fact, that the energy consumption in the total volume during the last years went up, that is associated with the growth and development of new products, the specific energy consumption per unit of processing ore from year to year decreases.

Thus, according to the AMMC, during 2010 the divisions of the plant consumed 1940,6 million kWh of electricity and 280,7 million cubic meters of natural gas. In 2014 the consumption of electricity amounted to 2154,9 million kWh, natural gas - 309 million cubic meters. If to compare the specific energy consumption for the processing of ore, compared to 2010 in the past year, the savings on electricity amounted to 7.3%, natural gas - 13.6%. In general in 2014 observed savings of 128.6 million kWh of electricity and 26.7 million cubic meters of natural gas for a total of 21.5 billion soums.

An action plan on development of AMMC to 2019, includes a set of measures aimed at improving the efficiency of production:

The first direction is the implementation of major investment projects: construction of a new furnace at the smelter, the commissioning of which will allow to reduce the consumption of natural gas in the volume of 43.5 million cubic meters per year in the amount of 7.9 billion soums, and technical re-equipment of the oxygen plant at the same plant. Currently, this project is nearing completion, under commissioning. Already this year it is expected electricity savings in the amount of 10.2 million kWh, or 1.5 billion soums.

The second direction is a specific implementation of organizational and technical measures developed by each business unit of AMMC in 2015, also aimed at the efficient use and saving of energy resources. So, 93 events will give savings to 114.4 million kWh of electricity, 16 saving measures of natural gas will save 24.6 million cubic meters for a total amount of 20.5 billion soums.

The third direction is the replacement of morally and physically obsolete equipment. In 2015 it is planned to replace 27 units of equipment that will allow to get additional savings 16.9 million kWh of electricity amounting to 2.4 billion soums.

The fourth direction is the use of alternative energy sources. This year it is planned commissioning of the biogas plant at the dairy farm with an annual production of electricity 1.1 million kWh (about 0.2 billion soums).

The fifth direction is widespread replacement of energy-saving lamps to led. Last year at the VIII International industrial fair and Cooperation exchange AMMC concluded a contract for the purchase of 114 thousand energy-saving led lamps, which will provide power savings in the amount of 2.3 million kWh (more than 0.3 billion soums).

By implementing the above measures in 2015 AMMC expects savings 147,1 million kWh of electricity and 24.6 million cubic meters of natural gas, in national currency equivalent will be 25,2 billion soums.

The above seems to be taken directly from AMMC's internal prospectus and hardly qualifies as news :)
This thread was created for news in the field of Mining Industry. I posted only news from AMMC. I have found this news. This is doesn't matter where I can find.
