Interesting... I'll make a visit on my next trip to New York. (I like that 'spitting' sign)

In the basement is an unused station with historic trains. It is interesting to climb on board.

Wow...definitely worth a visit when I go up there. NY's subway system has always fascinated me in a way no other system has managed to.

I think those are bus routes.

My favourite part of the museum was the subway platform where train cars from many different eras were on display.

MISC | Subway/metro museums of the world

Some cities have metro/subway museums. If you have visited one, post some photos!

I'm gonna start with the New York Transport Museum which is housed in the unused Court Street station in Brooklyn:

I've been to a small number around the world.

The best I've been to: London, it was recently renovated and is really worth the ticket price. It's located in a cool building in central London that feels like a train station (though never was) with many interactive displays.

The worst I've been to: Frankfurt, located in a far away suburban hideaway, it is a dusty shed full of old trains and carriages that look like it hasn't been updated since the 1970's. I was the only visitor when I went, and I'm not surprised. Go Frankfurt.

Must try the Berlin one when I get a chance. The NY one also looks interesting.

That site is not totally correct. The BKV museum the site features is not in Budapest but in Szentendre(although its about Budapest). There is a museum in Budapest for the metro in the old station of M1 line at Deák Ferenc square.

That's more like tram museums.

Let's stick to dedicated metro/subway museums here.

Dedicated subway museums are rare though. Most subway cities have no exhibition at all, some have at least a small subway exhibition as part of their technical museums or tram museums.

In Madrid just opened not a metro museum in the technical sense but interesting nevertheless: The new museum in an unused station has the idea of showing the public a little piece of underground life in the capital at the start of the 20th century.
